Meet Alyssa and Chris. They are expecting their first baby. They wanted us to be their maternity portrait photographers. Needless to say, we were excited to take their portraits. When you have beautiful clients like Alyssa and Chris, they make your job as a photographer a breeze.

Outdoor Maternity Portraits
Alyssa had some inspirational images and as a photographer, we try to meet or exceed their inspiration. We were on a mission to find the perfect outdoor backdrop for the perfect couple. We love this garden area. It has a look of different surroundings. This means that pregnant mother’s don’t get exhausted while photographing them here.

Creating Natural Layers in Photos
In our photos we lik

e to create natural layers. In the gardens we achieved this by having things in the foreground as well as the background. When we create layers in our photos it adds beauty and depth. We shoot layered

images with an open aperture so that your eye focuses on the subject rather then the layers. The background turns nice and creamy, bokeh, while the foreground adds depth and color. All of this without distracting from the most important part, the beautiful subject.

When photographing at the beach, we always choose the sunset hour. To be able to create the best light for beach portraits, you want to sun to be low enough on the horizon that you are not creating harsh shadows on your client. We like to incorporate light modifiers like reflectors and off camera lighting to create the perfect beach sunset portrait. Beach maternity portraits are always a challenge especially with constant ocean breezes. We always have to be aware of our subjects hair in relation to the wind. Often you have to choose wind direction or sun direction. This is where light modifiers become a must in your sunset portraits. Maternity Portrait with Off Camera Lighting

Alyssa has such gorgeous hair we wanted to make sure that was portrayed in her portraits. With the use of our light modifiers we were able to highlight both Alyssa and Chris in the “best” photographic light. This shows how beautiful they both are.
