When we schedule a senior portrait session, we help each client feel prepared, confident, and excited. Senior photos mark an important milestone in a student’s life, so we want the experience to feel personal from start to finish. Before the camera comes out, we talk through locations, clothing, props, and meaningful details that reflect who the senior is. For Kenzi’s session, we already knew she loved reading, travel, photography, and the beach. As a result, we planned a session that blended her personality with portraits she and her family could treasure.

Kenzi is creative, thoughtful, and full of personality, so she wanted a fun portrait with a deeper meaning. More importantly, she hoped to express the excitement of senior year along with the big decisions ahead. As a result, the clock concept helped show that childhood is passing quickly while a new chapter is about to begin.
Running Out Of Time
Creating a Polished Ring Light Look
Next, we used a ring light to create a polished and dramatic look. Essentially, a ring light is exactly what it sounds like: a circular light source that produces soft, nearly shadowless light. In addition, when it is paired with movement from a fan, it can add energy, dimension, and a fashion-inspired feel to the images. If you look closely, you can even see the ring light reflected in Kenzi’s eyes. Ultimately, this simple lighting choice helped us create a clean, modern senior portrait style.

Planning a Beach Senior Photo Session
The beach is one of the most requested locations for senior photo sessions, and Kenzi knew it needed to be part of hers. However, she also wanted to include a family hammock that had traveled with her family for years. Once she shared her idea of hanging the hammock under a pier, we knew the perfect location. Then, sunset gave us the warm, flattering light we wanted, and the beach setting added texture, movement, and a relaxed coastal feel. Before heading under the pier, we began photographing her along the walkway to the beach, creating images that felt natural and full of personality.

After that, we moved closer to the pier for a new set of portraits with stronger lines and a more dramatic backdrop.

From there, we stepped under the pier to create a cozy, meaningful scene with the hammock. Because the prop had family history, it added a personal touch that made the portraits feel even more connected to Kenzi’s story.

Ending the Senior Session at Sunset
Finally, we ended Kenzi’s session in the ocean at sunset. At that point, the combination of warm evening light, gentle water, and off-camera lighting created a glowing finish to her gallery. Although every location offered something different, this final stop gave us a memorable way to close the session with colorful senior portraits that reflected her style.
