Beating The Heat
For Olivia’s session we started out in the studio. During the summer months it’s best to do indoor pictures during the day and outdoor pictures in the evening. It ensures that our client looks their best and hasn’t had the humidity effect their appearance. When doing indoor pictures we can utilize different lighting and backgrounds. Olivia brought a few sets of clothing and necklaces as statement pieces that made each image unique. We always encourage our seniors to add their own flair when it comes to their sessions. Since our studio is right near the ocean we wanted to do beach portraits to wrap things up. Late afternoon or early evening is the best time do to outdoor pictures. The lighting from the setting sun in addition to professional photographic techniques make for amazing images. Time management is also another thing photographers need to keep in mind. In order to get the great sunset shots make sure to do any other outdoor pictures before in a timely manner. A big mistake in photography is missing amazing pictures because proper time management wasn’t used. We started the outdoor portion in an urban downtown area. Then we moved on to a fishing pier and finished up on the beach. Olivia also wanted to include her sister in some of the pictures which we were happy to do. We love when our seniors want to include a friend or family member in their session. It makes for more memorable pictures and adds a bit of fun to the session!

When is the best time of the year for Virginia Beach senior photos? The answer is simple. It is anytime! Meet Kasey. It’s winter, but we still did beach senior pictures!

Senior Picture Close Up Photo Kasey wasn’t ready for her senior portrait session during the summer. Some seniors would think they would have to wait until it was warm again, but not Kasey. We photographed her during the winter months.
We began her senior portrait session in a wooded area. We love finding the perfect location for our clients. In talking with Kasey before her photo shoot, she wanted to do something in a wooded area. She also mentioned that she would love to have railroad tracks in some of her senior pictures. She also wanted to incorporate her grandmother’s vintage chair.
Senior Pictures by the Railroad Tracks
When our clients have a desired location that they would like to be photographed, we try to make that happen. When the request comes for railroad tracks, photographing them can be a challenge. The challenge comes with the law. We are not allowed to photograph anyone on live tracks. The reason is safety.
We always get out and scout to find new locations for our photo sessions. We were able to find these super cool dead tracks to use in Kasey’s photoshoot. No worries railroad police, no trains have been on these tracks for years!

When you live in a beach community, beach pictures are a must. This doesn’t just happen during the summer months, it’s all year round. For Kasey’s Virginia Beach senior pictures, we headed to the beach around sunset. Sometimes our winter skies are not very colorful at sunset. Though we didn’t have a gorgeous summer sunset, the beach still was the perfect setting.

We offer family portraits in our studio that is located in the historic district of Norfolk, but we also offer on location family portraits. As a Norfolk family photographer, we have so many great outdoor locations to choose from. We are never short of ideas for the perfect photographic background.
For this family portrait photography session we started right outside of our downtown studio. We used a vintage settee on our cobblestone streets to set the tone for a beautiful family picture. We love to incorporate interesting props that also help with family portrait posing.

Meet Rachael
Rachel is a senior at Norfolk Christian. We have had the awesome opportunity to photograph her older sister and her family. I just love how I keep writing these posts and refer to photographing other members in their family. It is our goal as a photographer to be a client’s photographer for life. We want to be there to capture every person at every milestone. From newborn portraits to weddings, we love really getting to know our families.

When a senior comes to us for their senior portraits we try to advise them on what to bring. We encourage them to bring in props that represent their hobbies and interests. For Rachael, her big interest is movies. Her favorite network on tv is the Hallmark channel. It is easy for Rachael to get swept away for a day or weekend watching movies.
We are always looking for creative ways to incorporate a seniors interests. Rachael brought in her dvds and we did the rest.

Meet Trey
Outdoor Senior Picture Trey’s Senior Picture Experience
Trey…we just love this boy! He is a Hampton Roads Academy senior. We have been waiting to photograph him for a few years now. Our photographic journey with his family started a few years ago. It started by photographing his older sister’s senior portraits. That Christmas we began photographing family portraits to create custom Christmas cards for the family. That has become an annual event. We recently photographed his father’s retirement ceremony from the military. Now it was Trey’s turn.
Trey is an avid athlete. He has always excelled in sports. He always cross trains in various sports which makes him strong, flexible and a well rounded athlete. Trey’s latest love is with Crossfit. We were unfamiliar with Crossfit so we weren’t sure what to expect. We quickly adapted creating some pretty cool shots of Trey at the Crossfit gym.

We are always looking for a way to incorporate the beach into our senior sessions. When we photograph at the beach we only schedule that at sunset. When you are photographing on the beach you have to have great light. That only leaves you two options. The first option would be during overcast skies. The second option would be during the golden hour. The golden hour in photography is one hour prior to sunset. That is exactly when we took Ashley’s beach portraits.

Many of our seniors like to have their senior photos done with their horse. We are always happy to oblige! We love photographing seniors with their pets. A horse is no different then photographing senior pictures with a dog, just much bigger!
We took a trip out to the farm to do a variety of senior portraits. We photographed dance portraits, casual portraits and pictures with the horses all in one area.

Senior pictures are a very special time in a teenagers life. Choosing the right Virginia Beach senior portrait photographers is very important. Senior pictures are a once in a lifetime portrait session. We try to give our seniors great senior pictures as well as a great senior portrait experience.
For Madi’s senior pictures we visited many locations. We like to capture our high school seniors in a variety of outfits in a variety of locations.

When someone books their senior picture session we do a brief interview. In that interview session we ask the senior what they have in mind for their portrait locations. Many times they have ideas, but if not we know of plenty of cool places to take their senior portraits. Madi didn’t have any specific ideas, so she told us that we could decide on your photo shoot locations. We were happy to do that! As photographers it is important that we find great photographic locations. When we are searching for photo shoot areas for our senior portrait sessions, we look for texture, background and light. All three things are important in an awesome photo. Madi’s session was full of cool locations.
Urban Senior Pictures
We love the texture and grunge of our urban areas. As a senior portrait photographer, seniors usually love the idea of shoot in alleyways and hidden alleys. We may get a little dirty, but it’s always worth it.
Beautiful Senior Girl Our urban area is full of history as well. We love this locations. The iron fences and cobblestone streets are great backgrounds. We love this location because of it’s history. We always love how the afternoon sun filters down this street creating beautiful sun flare photos.

Meet beautiful April. We loved photographing her senior pictures! April started her appointment with a full make up session with one our make up artists. Once her make up was done, we were excited about her senior photo session. April had planned her outfits perfectly! Each were complete from head to toe. She made sure that she was prepared for her photo shoot. Everything was organized and accessorized perfectly.
