Molly and Eddie Got Married A beautiful couple + a beautiful venue = awesome wedding photography. This is the motto that Molly and Eddie should stand by. They are two beautiful clients both inside and out. We have had such an amazing time getting to know Molly and Eddie. We love to start building a relationship with our clients through their engagement session. That is where we learn more about their story. It also helps us figure out the best angles and poses for each client. Check out their engagement session.  You will see that they are both amazing in front of the camera. In talking to them both on multiple occasions, we knew that the venue for the wedding would be breathtaking. They chose to have their wedding ceremony and reception at the historic Upper Brandon Plantation. Upper Brandon Plantation Wedding The Upper Brandon Plantation is an amazing property full of history. The main house was built in 1825. You can learn more about the Upper Brandon Plantation here. Not only is the property filled with historical elements and buildings, it’s landscape offers the perfect backdrop for an amazing wedding. Wedding Photography | Preparation and Detail Photos We always begin our wedding day by photographing details. Detail shots are critical to a wedding. Our details shots not only consist of the gown, shoes, rings, etc, but every detail element. Our brides and grooms are spending so much time designing the perfect wedding day we make sure that we capture it all. If you are a wedding photographer and are stumped with what photos are critical on a wedding day, we can help. It is simply a time where the bride and groom see each other for the first time. This private meeting is just that, private. We set up a beautiful location where they meet. This meeting takes place prior to the ceremony. We find that when a bride and groom see each other prior to the ceremony, it often helps them relax. During this time we are able to capture real emotion through our wedding photography.   The Wedding Ceremony The wedding ceremony at the Upper Brandon Plantation took place that the gorgeous gazebo. (click on an image to enlarge) Bridal Party Portraits We love our time that we get to spend at a wedding with the bridal party. We strive to always capture great traditional portraits and well as more creative wedding portraits. Sometimes you feel like you have to wrangle a large bridal party in order to capture a great wedding photo, but as you can see, this bridal party was a piece of cake! Look at this cute bridal party portrait with the ring bearer and flower girl. By this time of the day Lucy and Xander’s patience was running out. To keep them engaged we decided to incorporate a little fun. We told them that they could run in this picture. What a great way to create fun for a 2 and 4 year old and capture a great bridal party portrait! Wedding Photography Portraits Alas, our favorite portrait time of the day. We cherish the time we get to spend with the bride and groom on their wedding day. We love creating lasting memories and portraits. This day was no different. One of the more beautiful things we capture is the love between a bride and groom. A wedding day is one of the most happiest days in our couple’s lives. This makes capturing amazing wedding portraits easy for us. As a wedding photographer, we are responsible for posing and capturing amazing portraits. We strive to pose our creative wedding portraits in a way that look natural and more candid. We also try to also incorporate dramatic lighting to create some awesome wedding photos. If you are having trouble posing your clients, check out our Couple’s Posing Guide. Aftershoot Norfolk Downtown & Beach – Mario & Meredith | Couples Lifestyle Photography

We had the joy of photographing Mario & Meredith’s wedding a few weeks ago and had them join us again for an aftershoot.  Meredith put her wedding dress back on and Mario found a sharp looking suit and we hit the town.  Aftershoots allow us to create some more “edgy” shots without having to keep Mario & Meredith pristine for their wedding day.  We walked around some alleyways and streets of downtown Norfolk then headed to the beach for a quick romp through the water.  Too cool!  While these guys had shot with us a few times before, many of our aftershoot couples are first-timers with us wanting our style of photography but having already completed their wedding this is a great option!  Here’s a few shots of our afternoon with this fabulous couple:

Hotel Roanoke Wedding Sarah & Aaron | Hayne Photographers Wedding Photography

A road trip to Roanoke was in order for Sarah & Aaron’s wedding at the Hotel Roanoke. The Hotel Roanoke was just oozing with history and nostalgia. We had such an awesome time as we met Sarah & Aaron’s family and even met up with our past bride & groom, Kate & Allen. The clouds were ominous as the ceremony approached so we had to move inside but even that did not dampen the excitement that was electric throughout the day! Hotel Roanoke has never looked better from top to bottom thanks to Corsair events. See for yourselves –

Wedding Virginia Beach – Bruce & Laura | Destination Wedding Photographer

We joined Bruce and Laura on their wedding day and the day could not have been more magnificent!  We arrived at Haygood United Methodist where Laura was busy with her hair and make-up and Bruce was doing the groom thing – cutting up with the guys. We saw the dress on the hanger and it looked great without Laura in it we couldn’t wait to see her in it!  We were not disappointed – All the Rage hit a home run again with this one!  Turpins dropped off the flowers as guests began to arrive.  With a few moments before the ceremony we were able to spend a few minutes with Laura for a few shots before she was hustled away to her awaiting Dad.  The ceremony went off without a hitch and after a few shots with the family and the NEW hot couple we were off to the quaint little chapel then to  One Fish Two Fish for the reception.  Johnny with Astro DJ’s had the tunes playing as they walked in and the staff at One Fish Two Fish threw down some serious chow and the party started!  Dancing, singing, and much laughter ensued (especially when Bruce took to the floor!)   We stepped out for a moment at sunset as the sun dropped below the horizon lighting up the sky with an orange glow while the Lynnhaven river lapped gently against the pier.  That’s prime picture taking time I’d say!  Overall,  the day was awesome with dash of magnificent thrown in – yup, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it…..  Here’s proof –

Wedding Chrysler Museum – Vinny & Christine

Vinny & Christine brought the house down at the Chrysler Museum last Saturday.  An evening full of dancing and festivities with just a “few” of their family and friends was on tap and we were just along for the crazy ride!  Vinny was airborne a few times with the help of all his brothers and Christine was simply stunning in her gown.  Daevid’s Bridal Flowers did his magic to the bouquets & decorations along with the talents of Antonia Christianson Events the night went off without a hitch – can you say fab? I knew you could….  Here’s some of my favs from the evening:

Wedding Slideshow Marriott Norfolk – Mike & Melanie

I love M&M’s they make my tummy happy. Mike & Melanie, while not being covered in a sweet candy shell, are certainly a treat to take pictures of! I am just sure that they have a warm chocolate center – I just know it! After all, how else can you explain all the joy and mirth (there’s a new word for your Scrabble game!) that followed them around on their wedding day? From the church to the Waterside Marriott it was a sweet ride! I have always thought M&M’s can cure world hunger and bring peace to the nations. It all starts with Mike & Melanie…. my favorite M&M’s of all!

Wedding Slideshow Chesapeake Conference Center- Marjorie & Josh

As the year draws to a close a new life together begins for Marjorie & Josh! If the opening kick-off of their life together is any indicator of what is to come then watch out world – they’ve got plans….. Here’s a sneak peek into their day as we hung out with them and their army of adoring friends & family. Viva la love!

Chesapeake/Norfolk Marriott Wedding – Josh and Marjorie!

Josh and Marjorie put on quite a show on their wedding day for a “few” of their family and friends. The dancing – epic. The gown – to die for. The guys – rockstars. The photography wasn’t too bad either. Here’s a few for ya’! Congrats guys!

Chrysler Museum Wedding – Leo and Anastasia

The food just kept coming and the dancing was non-stop!  If this is what having a Russian wedding is like than I am defecting… They do know how to throw a party!  Leo and Anastasia took over the Chrysler Museum and made it their own for a few hours last week.  They danced across Huber Court while their guests feasted on some authentic Russian cuisine put together by Cuisine & Company.  We wish them the best and look forward to hearing amazing things about their new life together!  Here’s a few shots as we strolled around Botanical Gardens and spent the evening at the always fabulous Chrysler Museum:

Wedding at Norfolk Yacht Club – Nathan & Ashley

Some people find meaning in their job.  Some in their kids.  Nathan & Ashley found it in each other.  They don’t need a wedding for it to show….they just ooze love & happiness.  Their wedding was at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk which just looked stunning with the cathedral ceilings and stained glass.  The Norfolk Yacht Club is where the fun began with amazing food, music & dancing.  It was a joy to spend the day with everyone!  Congrats Nathan & Ashley!

Alaska Workshop – Bride & Groom Photoshoot

Alaska is big and far away. That did not stop us from heading north and putting on our teacher’s hat and hosting one of our No Rules Workshops in Anchorage, Alaska! We had just finished up our Aruba weddings so we criss-crossed our great land and landed at Nordby Photography where they hosted us for a few days of shooting and instructing. A totally different backdrop from our usual beaches and parks gave way to mountains and the great Alaska outback. This will go down as a most unique location with sunset around midnight and mountains and forests that only Alaska could offer. Here’s a few pics of our bride & groom shoot on the rocky coast of Alaska (more to come!) :

Aruba Destination Beach Wedding at Manchebo Beach – Norm and Oksana

Aruba seems to love us lately and we sure love that island! Norm & Oksana had us join them on that fabulous island for their intimate wedding at the Manchebo Beach Resort. We also spent the day with them prior to the wedding exploring the many unique locations for their pre-shoot. With 4-wheel drives we headed out to Bushiribana Gold ruins, Guadirikiri & Fontein Caves, the always amazing wild Windward side of the island along with the peaceful white sands of Eagle Beach. The wedding was right at sunset over the Caribbean Sea at Manchebo Beach where the palms waved and the sand slipped between our toes as we photographed this gorgeous couple. It was an international affair with family and guests from Ukraine, Australia, Vietnam and of course the USA (CA & VA)! It was a time we will never forget with Norm & Oksana and we wish them the very best on their new journey! Here they are:
