Senior Experience Photo Shoot – John David, Norfolk
We spent some time in our new studio with John David for a quick Senior shoot and it was fun to work with him. John David has a terrific look and pulled off a James Dean Look pretty well if you ask me! The studio is becoming more and more a part of each and every shoot since we have 4 different shooting bays and dozens of backdrops. Of course, we still go on location but the studio always adds a bit of variety. We had the music rockin’ and the strobes poppin’ for his shoot – here’s a few of my favs:
Our NEW Studio!
Hayne Photographers Studio from Scott Hayne on Vimeo. As many of you know we have recently moved our studio to a new location in downtown Norfolk, VA. It is certainly an exciting time for us as we grow and develop our business but along with it comes a new sense of responsibility for sure! This new location right on Granby Street in the heart of our fine city was a blank slate when we walked in a few months ago but with the help of Ikea and some bold fresh ideas in our heads we’ve come up with some swanky new digs. As always the client experience is #1 and we think we have a home run with our new furniture, hip lighting, a thumpin’ sound system along with Wii for the kids and munchies & drinks for everyone. The camera room is huge with 13 foot ceilings and 5 different shooting areas complete with state of the art lighting & backdrop systems. It’s taking some getting used to but I am really loving shooting with all this space! A designated changing room and make-up area will allow you to change faster and have you looking your best! All-in-all it is about triple the space (2000 sq.ft.) that we were in previously with plenty of parking and easy to locate. We’d love to have you stop by and just visit so we can show you around or maybe even catch us on a shoot and watch all the fun! Of course you could just drop by for a cup o’ joe & play the Wii…. 🙂
No Rules Workshop – Norfolk
Our first workshop in our shiny new studio! Our thanks go out to the Wells Theater in downtown Norfolk for allowing us to use their fabulous space for our shooting. 20 of us dodged the snowflakes and took cover in the historic theater where we kept warm and took some rather cool shots. Christ & St. Lukes Church loaned us their stunning sanctuary for some shots inside the church. Our model Rachel looked amazing in a gown from Pure English Bridal and a couple of gowns from All The Rage Virginia Beach. Brian was sporting some vintage fashions from Echoes in Time that fit in perfectly with the theme of the shoots. We love doing these workshops, especially when they are on our home turf and we know everyone came away with great shots and new friends. Our next local No Rules Workshop will be on April 13th where we will be focusing on shooting, editing, and image critique. Only 20 seats available and they will be going quick! Our teaching and workshop tour is kicking off in January so maybe we will be coming to a venue near you! Wedding Slideshow Chrysler Museum – Mario & Meredith
Weddings are such amazing events to capture on camera but beyond the event is the relationships and personalities of everyone involved. Mario & Meredith had an evening full of some of the coolest and most genuine characters which made our job a joy at the Chrysler Museum. From the pink dress to the chuppah decorated with hundreds of red roses we have never seen the Chrysler Museum dressed up quite like this! Here’s a glimpse into their evening!

Wedding Slideshow Marriott Norfolk – Mike & Melanie
I love M&M’s they make my tummy happy. Mike & Melanie, while not being covered in a sweet candy shell, are certainly a treat to take pictures of! I am just sure that they have a warm chocolate center – I just know it! After all, how else can you explain all the joy and mirth (there’s a new word for your Scrabble game!) that followed them around on their wedding day? From the church to the Waterside Marriott it was a sweet ride! I have always thought M&M’s can cure world hunger and bring peace to the nations. It all starts with Mike & Melanie…. my favorite M&M’s of all!
Chrysler Museum Wedding – Mario & Meredith
The Chrysler Museum always offers up amazing opportunities to photograph with statues and artwork as backgrounds for our bride & grooms. Mario & Meredith certainly took it up a notch with their wedding by adding floral arrangements by Botanique and lighting by Blue Steel Lighting. I must say, I have never seen the Chrysler Museum look quite so awesome! Mario & Meredith were a joy to work with and we must thank them for taking some time with us which we always realize can be difficult to do on your wedding day. It pays off with killer images from a top notch venue of a top notch couple!
Wedding Slideshow Norfolk Yacht Club – Nathan & Ashley
Classic beauty and suave sophistication were married the other day and their names were Nathan & Ashley. I’ll let you figure out who is who… Whenever we shoot a wedding at the Norfolk Yacht Club it just adds to the classiness to the whole event. Throw in the amazing architecture of the First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk and you end up with the coolest pics! Here’s a few of our favs via a slideshow:
Visionary Productions Wedding Video – Mike & Melanie
I think Dave Alegre over at Visionary Productions has the whole video thing down…. Well, I guess it helps when you have an awesome couple like Mike and Melanie as your subjects! He added a few images from their engagement shoot along with his video and came up with this really cool wedding fusion video. Killer job Dave as always! Norfolk Marriott Wedding – Mike and Melanie!
Mike and Melanie. Here’s all you need to know: They can dance. They look rather awesome. They dig the whole photography thing. We <3 them lots. Well if you must know the boring stuff….they were married last week and the reception was at the Norfolk Marriott. Arch Entertainment rocked the dance floor. Simply Perfect Events made sure the whole day went smooth. Crazy off-the-hook flowers were provided by the always hip Bella Flora. Visionary Productions was buzzing around busy as a bee documenting the day too. And of course, we took some cool pictures along the way!
Chrysler Museum Wedding – Leo and Anastasia
The food just kept coming and the dancing was non-stop! If this is what having a Russian wedding is like than I am defecting… They do know how to throw a party! Leo and Anastasia took over the Chrysler Museum and made it their own for a few hours last week. They danced across Huber Court while their guests feasted on some authentic Russian cuisine put together by Cuisine & Company. We wish them the best and look forward to hearing amazing things about their new life together! Here’s a few shots as we strolled around Botanical Gardens and spent the evening at the always fabulous Chrysler Museum:
Wedding at Norfolk Yacht Club – Nathan & Ashley
Some people find meaning in their job. Some in their kids. Nathan & Ashley found it in each other. They don’t need a wedding for it to show….they just ooze love & happiness. Their wedding was at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk which just looked stunning with the cathedral ceilings and stained glass. The Norfolk Yacht Club is where the fun began with amazing food, music & dancing. It was a joy to spend the day with everyone! Congrats Nathan & Ashley!
Musician Portfolio Shoot – Shannon!
Shannon sings. Shannon dances. Shannon plays. I shoot. What a fine combination. I get to photograph a most awesome singer/songwriter and she gets to look good and have fun doing it! We had a fab time putting together a few shots for her upcoming CD and portfolio. I kinda like it. You? Watch out world – Shannon is comin’ for ya……
Band Photoshoot – The Difference
We are always on the lookout for up and coming artists so we can create some unique photographs for their CD’s and portfolio. “The Difference” is certainly one of those groups! They just returned from Nashville where they were recording their latest album. These guys not only look good but they are just as genuine as they appear. We had a killer time photographing them in our studio along with shooting on the beach and came up with a great look for them.
