Jillian – Chesapeake Senior Photography Meet Jillian. She is a rising senior at Grassfield High School. We were so excited that she choose us to photograph her senior portraits! Jillian is an excellent student, super smart and gorgeous. Jillian was Captain of both JV soccer and JV field hockey teams her sophomore year. She has 4.35 GPA and will complete AP Calculus AB and BC as a HS junior! She has traveled to Italy, England, France, Germany and Ireland as well as many cities and states within the US. She has wanted to be a doctor since I was 8 years old. We try to get to know our seniors so that we can reflect who they are in their senior pictures. This image of Jillian with the mask represents some of her travel. This mask she bought while traveling abroad. She thought it would be a cool senior portrait and I would have to agree! She also brought in some props to incorporate into a travel themed photo. We also added a few of our travel props to pull off some fun senior photos. We wanted to figure out a way to incorporate that into a senior picture. Her idea of the chalkboard was brilliant! Since Jillian is planning on being a doctor, a stethoscope and a Gray’s Anatomy Book were exactly what the doctor ordered! Actually it really helped tell her story in a photo. She is a Class of 2015 Grassfield High School student. We were so excited about Karlie’s senior photo session. We had a hunch that her photos would turn out gorgeous and I think that you will agree. She is varsity cheerleader at Grassfield High School. Gymnastics has also been a huge part of her life. She is a a member of Grassfield’s Student Council Association and involved in class office. She loves to volunteer especially for organizations such as CHKD. In her free time, she also loves to shop and just relax on the beach or just enjoy nature. I think that you would agree that Karlie should add to her list that she loves taking stunning senior pictures! Senior Pictures in a Field We love finding a great spot for senior portraits. We are always on the search for a great field. Fields always add interests to your photos, especially if you use a variety of lenses. We love to shoot each location with both telephoto lenses and wide angles. When you do this as a photographer you can create a lot of unique portraits in a small area. He is one of our Class of 2015 Senior Models for our studio. We chose Nick because we felt like he would photograph well. We also thought he would be a great representative for our studio. Our goal for our senior models is to provide the great senior photos. Also that they will share the photos with everyone. We also want them to share their experience about their photo shoot. We began Nick’s senior photo session at the studio. We always try to capture a variety of images in the studio before heading out to photograph on location. Here are a few of our favorite studio pictures. We had so many favorite photos of Nick it was hard to choose which ones to post. On Location Senior Portraits We always like to include an on location photography segment with our clients. We live in such a beautiful area that we enjoy using a variety of backdrops. With Nick we stayed in the downtown area of Norfolk for his senior pictures. He attends the Governor School of Arts in Norfolk focusing in film. He loves creating short films and wanted to incorporate his video camera in a few pictures. Urban Senior Pictures We spent quite a bit of time photographing Nick downtown. Here are a few more cool senior photos that we captured. Norfolk Senior Pictures at the Park Our last stop for Nick’s photo shoot was the park. We love having different colors and backgrounds in our portraits. The park is usually a great place to find an array of that. Here are some of our favorite senior photos of Nick at the park. I will tell you that some of my personal favorite photos are the ones with him and his dog. We love incorporating pet photography into our photo shoots. Chrysler Museum Wedding Photographer – – Melissa and Seth’s Jewish Wedding

Melissa and Seth’s Jewish Wedding It was a beautiful weekend when we photographed Melissa and Seth’s wedding. It was a Sunday wedding and was the perfect way to finish out the weekend. As a wedding photographer we are always excited about what traditions will be celebrated. To be a well rounded wedding photographer, you must be familiar with all traditions. Whether it’s a Protestant wedding, a Jewish wedding, an Indian wedding, a Greek Orthodox wedding, it makes no difference to us. We are very familiar with all of them and the traditions that we will be photographing. For Melissa and Seth, it was a beautiful Jewish wedding. Their wedding was complete with a custom, beautiful Ketubah, a gorgeous Chuppah and breaking the glass. They had it all, and then some. Not only was the weather perfect for a wedding, the location was equally as great. They were married at the newly remodeled Chrysler Museum of Art. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Chrysler in a while you will love what they have done! We love to work with amazing couples and their families. We also love working with amazing vendors. The wedding day was under the direction of Antonia Christianson Events. As a wedding photographer we love working with great coordinators. They make our day flawless. Many other great vendors were in attendance helping the wedding go off with out a hitch. Fluttering Flowers, Cake Delights, Cuisine and Company, Stage Right Lighting, The Boardwalk Photobooth Company, Kristal Lane Beauty and the band, In Full. Melissa’s gown was from Wedding Atelier. We just loved her wedding gown with the beautiful bolero. (click on image to enlarge) Wedding Preparation Photography For a wedding photographer, we feel it is important to have creative wedding photos. That is true for every phases of a wedding day. When we are taking photos during preparation, we are always looking for different angles and composition. When you add these elements it creates interest in your wedding photos. Why a first look, you may ask. As a wedding photographer, we have photographed hundreds of weddings. When one of our bride and groom’s have a “first look”, we find these results. 1. The bride and groom feel complete once they see each other. The wedding day, no matter how prepared you are, you are going to have butterflies. We find that when our bride and groom chose a first look, those butterflies are diminished immediately! 2. It’s the best that a bride is going to look on her wedding day! Dress perfect…check, make up perfect…check, and hair perfect….check, check. 3. It gives a bride and groom some down time to really enjoy each other on a hectic wedding day. How Do We Photograph a First Look? 1. We find a beautiful location that is undisturbed by people, so it is truly a private meeting. 2. We have the groom facing away so that the bride can approach from behind. This allows a great opportunity for great photos. The expression on a groom’s face as he hears his loved one approaching is amazing. Here is a video that has a real first look at the Chrysler Museum. 3. We always respect the bride and groom’s privacy. 4. Real Emotion. Often it is hard for a groom to let down his guard in a ceremony where he is surrounded by all the guests. Men don’t often like to let down their guard in a group, but in private, it’s different. 5. During a first look we will have two of us photographing. One will be focusing on the bride’s reactions and one focused on the groom. This helps tells the whole story. 6. We capture a few other great photos during that time. After the first look has happened, we get to spend a little extra time capturing additional great pictures. Melissa and Seth’s First Look I think that you will agree, Melissa can not take a bad photo. She is simply stunning! These crazy masks have a sentimental meaning behind them. If you see Melissa and Seth, you will have to ask them the story! Running from the Rubber Duck This monstrous size is 10x11x13 meters. Though I am not good at converting metrics, trust my it’s huge! This traveling sculpture by Florentijn Hofman has and is literally traveling the world. Allison and Ryan’s Wedding Day I love a good wedding and a Founders Inn Wedding with Allison and Ryan was just what the doctor ordered. Bridal and Wedding Flowers There are so many details of a wedding day, it is important for us to capture them all. So much time goes into the wedding planning process. We were so honored that they chose us to be their wedding photographer. My running joke is that we only photographed beautiful people. You can see why that statement is true. Katie was breathtaking in her gorgeous wedding gown from Ava Laurenne Bride. Josh, well, he wasn’t so bad either. He was very handsome in his wedding attire. The wedding day was amazing partly because it was under the direction of Carolyn at Signature Weddings. The floral design was by the one and only Daevids.Their cake artist was Incredible Edibles Bakery. There were many other amazing vendors that made their wedding day dreams come true. Some of them were Stage Right Lighting, Make Up by Kim Porter, The Boardwalk Photobooth Company and Cuisine and Company. Beautiful Bride (click on image to enlarge) The Wedding Ceremony Wedding ceremony’s at the Chrysler Museum are always beautiful to photograph. The museum is beautiful and the addition of the orchid wall adds an amazing background to any celebration. (click on image to enlarge) The Invasion of the Duck Well, in case you haven’t heard, there was an invasion of a duck…a large rubber duck. The Chrysler Museum hosted the Rubber Duck sculpture during the busy Memorial Day weekend. This duck was designed by Florentjin Hofman. It is traveling art that is literally seeing the world. It has been in Holland, France, Brazil, Australia, China and Azerbaijan. It has been a very busy duck! Though Katie was not excited about the duck, she embraced him in the end. Private Pictures with the Bride and Groom I can tell you right now, that this is my favorite photo time of the entire wedding day. Yes, we love to cover the ceremony. Yes, we love to photograph the reception, however, there is not a more precious time then our time spent with the bride and groom. We have had the awesome opportunity to photograph her older sister and her family. I just love how I keep writing these posts and refer to photographing other members in their family. It is our goal as a photographer to be a client’s photographer for life. We want to be there to capture every person at every milestone. From newborn portraits to weddings, we love really getting to know our families. (click on image to enlarge) Hobby and Interests Senior Pictures When a senior comes to us for their senior portraits we try to advise them on what to bring. We encourage them to bring in props that represent their hobbies and interests. For Rachael, her big interest is movies. Her favorite network on tv is the Hallmark channel. It is easy for Rachael to get swept away for a day or weekend watching movies. We are always looking for creative ways to incorporate a seniors interests. Rachael brought in her dvds and we did the rest. Formal Senior Portraits Many of our seniors like to bring in a formal to be photographed in. Most of the time it will be a recent ring dance, homecoming or prom dress. For Rachael we decided to photograph her in her formal gown in the studio and on location. Isn’t she stunning? It always makes our photos more interesting if you have multiple outfits in multiple locations. We traveled to photograph in a historic area, urban area, park, rural area, and more. He is a Hampton Roads Academy senior. We have been waiting to photograph him for a few years now. Our photographic journey with his family started a few years ago. It started by photographing his older sister’s senior portraits. That Christmas we began photographing family portraits to create custom Christmas cards for the family. That has become an annual event. We recently photographed his father’s retirement ceremony from the military. Now it was Trey’s turn. Trey is an avid athlete. He has always excelled in sports. He always cross trains in various sports which makes him strong, flexible and a well rounded athlete. Trey’s latest love is with Crossfit. We were unfamiliar with Crossfit so we weren’t sure what to expect. We quickly adapted creating some pretty cool shots of Trey at the Crossfit gym. Football and LaCrosse Senior Pictures Once we had worked up a good sweat at the Crossfit gym, we headed to the studio. Trey is currently playing football and it top in his game. He wanted to incorporate his cool electric guitar into his senior pictures. Madison is like one of our own. We have watched him grow up into a fine young man. At this point, Madison is probably flush in the face reading this. We have know Madison for a number of years. We started the photographic journey with his family by photographing his family’s wedding. It just seems like yesterday, however, when I look at the images of from their wedding, it almost reduces me to tears. Where do the years go? We have followed his family by photographing family portraits, senior portraits for his older brother and now it was Madison’s turn. Madison is a excellent student, a singer, a boy scout, just a short distance from earning his Eagle Scout, a crew member. He is avid outdoorsman. Madison decided to incorporate casual senior portraits, crew senior pictures and hiking and biking senior pictures. When you are photographing on the beach you have to have great light. That only leaves you two options. The first option would be during overcast skies. The second option would be during the golden hour. The golden hour in photography is one hour prior to sunset. That is exactly when we took Ashley’s beach portraits. Maddie has been dancing since she was a little girl. She knew that she wanted some unique dance pictures. Maddie purchased this stunning yellow tutu for her senior pictures. I think we were able to capture some awesome senior portraits with it. Don’t you? Interests and Sports Photos With every senior we encourage them to bring in props that highlight their interests in sports. Maddei loves numbers and loves travel. She gathered a few cool props to highlight her wanting to be a CPA and if you look real close, you will see the Eiffel Tower on her dress print! Senior Portraits with a Horse Many of our seniors like to have their senior photos done with their horse. We are always happy to oblige! We love photographing seniors with their pets. A horse is no different then photographing senior pictures with a dog, just much bigger! We took a trip out to the farm to do a variety of senior portraits. We photographed dance portraits, casual portraits and pictures with the horses all in one area. Senior Beach Portraits Ah…the beach. The last stop for Maddie’s senior experience was the beach at sunset. Sunset is the perfect time to photograph at the beach. Here we again did some lyrical dance portraits as well as causal senior pictures with Maddie. Isn’t she stunning?
