Even better, they held it inside a movie theater at midnight, and guests stayed afterward to watch the film together. As wedding photographers, we always prepare for surprises; however, this celebration gave us a setting unlike any other. The theater created a bold backdrop with dramatic lighting, themed costumes, and creative photo opportunities around every corner. Because the couple embraced the concept fully, their images captured both the fun of the theme and the emotion of the day.
Photographing a Themed Wedding in a Movie Theater
Because the ceremony took place in a public venue, we coordinated carefully with theater management and respected each safety guideline. In addition, we stayed flexible with available spaces so we could move quickly and keep the timeline on track. The local police force also helped make nearby outdoor portraits possible, which added even more variety to the final gallery.
Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Costumed Wedding Guests
Before the big night, we learned that Michelle and Chuck would arrive as Princess Leia and Han Solo. Many guests planned costumes as well, so we knew the event would feel theatrical from the start. Therefore, we approached the coverage with a playful mindset while still focusing on the candid moments, portraits, and details that matter most in wedding photography.

Since the ceremony began at midnight, we could not rely on natural light. Instead, we planned several iconic, movie-inspired poses and brought multiple sources of photographic lighting. This preparation helped us create dramatic portraits, highlight the costumes, and give guests a polished photo experience with a custom background.
