Maddie is a Landstown High School senior and came to us for your senior pictures. We love Maddie’s family. We had the privilege of photographing her brother’s senior portraits two years ago. We are glad that they choose us to be their senior portrait photographer again this year. Unique Dance Portraits Maddie is gifted in many areas of her life, but she really shines as a dancer. Maddie has been dancing since she was a little girl. She knew that she wanted some unique dance pictures. Maddie purchased this stunning yellow tutu for her senior pictures. I think we were able to capture some awesome senior portraits with it. Don’t you? Interests and Sports Photos With every senior we encourage them to bring in props that highlight their interests in sports. Maddei loves numbers and loves travel. She gathered a few cool props to highlight her wanting to be a CPA and if you look real close, you will see the Eiffel Tower on her dress print! Senior Portraits with a Horse Many of our seniors like to have their senior photos done with their horse. We are always happy to oblige! We love photographing seniors with their pets. A horse is no different then photographing senior pictures with a dog, just much bigger! We took a trip out to the farm to do a variety of senior portraits. We photographed dance portraits, casual portraits and pictures with the horses all in one area. Senior Beach Portraits Ah…the beach. The last stop for Maddie’s senior experience was the beach at sunset. Sunset is the perfect time to photograph at the beach. Here we again did some lyrical dance portraits as well as causal senior pictures with Maddie. Isn’t she stunning? Grassfield High School Senior Meet Max. He is an awesome Grassfield High School Senior. We were so excited to photograph his Norfolk senior pictures. We love the downtown area of Norfolk and so does Max. It was a perfect fit for his senior photos. He is the younger brother of one of our past seniors. We have also photographed the family’s portraits. We love when we see our clients over and over again. We love to be their photographer for life. Senior Pictures When we photograph a senior portrait session, we always have the senior bring their sports or hobby props. We like to photograph our seniors in their “element”. Sports Photography Pet Photography We love to be able to photograph our high school seniors with their pets. I must say that usually we photograph them with their dog, but in Max’s case, meet his precious cat, Thomas O’Malley. Urban Senior Portraits We headed out with Max to find some cool alleyways. They are plentiful when your are photographing downtown. We love the alleyways because of the grunge and texture. When taking pictures the right texture and background make a spectacular photo. Epic Senior Pictures We are always searching for awesome backgrounds. I think you will agree that we have found one! I love all the color and texture in this epic mural. High School Senior Portraits Meet Conner. He is a uprising senior at Great Bridge High School. We loved taking Conner’s Chesapeake senior portraits. Conner’s older sister had her senior pictures taken with us a few years ago. You can imagine the excitement that we had photographing him since we adore his sister! Senior Soccer Pictures Conner is an uber talented athlete, so we had to capture cool senior sports pictures. We always encourage our seniors to bring in props that define who they are. Senior Pictures Senior pictures are a very special time in a teenagers life. Choosing the right Virginia Beach senior portrait photographers is very important. Senior pictures are a once in a lifetime portrait session. We try to give our seniors great senior pictures as well as a great senior portrait experience. For Madi’s senior pictures we visited many locations. We like to capture our high school seniors in a variety of outfits in a variety of locations. Senior Portrait Locations When someone books their senior picture session we do a brief interview. In that interview session we ask the senior what they have in mind for their portrait locations. Many times they have ideas, but if not we know of plenty of cool places to take their senior portraits. Madi didn’t have any specific ideas, so she told us that we could decide on your photo shoot locations. We were happy to do that! As photographers it is important that we find great photographic locations. When we are searching for photo shoot areas for our senior portrait sessions, we look for texture, background and light. All three things are important in an awesome photo. Madi’s session was full of cool locations. Urban Senior Pictures We love the texture and grunge of our urban areas. As a senior portrait photographer, seniors usually love the idea of shoot in alleyways and hidden alleys. We may get a little dirty, but it’s always worth it. Our urban area is full of history as well. We love this locations. The iron fences and cobblestone streets are great backgrounds. We love this location because of it’s history. We always love how the afternoon sun filters down this street creating beautiful sun flare photos. Rustic Senior Pictures Rustic settings always create cool senior pictures. Finding abandoned railroad tracks and incorporating an antique chair creates interesting senior portraits. Beach Senior Pictures Are you looking for a Virginia Beach senior portrait photographer? Stylized Photo Shoot Art Deco Style Are you dreaming of a stylized portrait session? Contact us and we will photograph it! Photographing a stylized photo shoot is always a great creative avenue for a photographer. To have someone prepare a thematic photo shoot with all the details is a photographers dream. It is a great time as a photographer to just slow down and create amazing photos. How to Plan a Stylized Photo Shoot A stylized or thematic photo shoot plan includes lots of background work and research. In order to have an effective photo shoot you need to ensure that you do a lot of research. This includes collecting all the elements needed to accomplish the photo shoot goal. If you have connections to great vendors, this is a wonderful opportunity to partner with them to achieve the same final goal…great marketable images for all! This Art Deco Photo Shoot was directed by Tanya Frazier of Graceful Designs She then partnered with Ava Clara Bridal Boutique, Royal Coach, The Wells Theater, Beecroft and Bull, hair and make up artist Jaqueline and Jessica Horton. Floral and linens by Graceful Designs. What Type of Stylized Photo Shoot Will I Plan When thinking about a thematic photo shoot, first you should think about the end goal. What type of images are you trying to portray? Modern, traditional or vintage photos? Why are you producing these stylized photos? What age would you like your model or models to be? Is the setting going to be industrial, contemporary or historic? What elements do you need to make your vision come to life? For this photo shoot Tanya wanted a vintage, Art Deco style. These images will be used in an upcoming publication of her latest magazine. Conceptualizing Your Thematic Photo Shoot Once you have decided on the basic elements of your thematic photo shoot, it is now time to start envisioning your photos. Who do you want to use as models? What will the models wear? Where will the photo shoot take place? Tanya wanted a two female bride models in their 20s and 30s. She only wanted one groom model. She decided that she wanted glamorous, vintage and unique images. Choose the Right Clothing for Your Stylized Shoot Now it is time for the fun stuff! Finding the right couture for your concept. For this shoot we were able to use gowns, accessories, shoes, etc, from Ava Clara. A wonderful thing with working with knowledgeable vendors like Ava Clara, is giving them your vision and allowing them to run with it. This dress boutique knew the perfect Art Deco wedding gowns and accessories to choose. They put together two complete looks for each of our bride models. (click on each image to enlarge) Beecroft and Bull did the same. We gave them the vision and they choose the perfect Art Deco wedding couture to do with it. Where to Photograph a Stylized Shoot When planning a stylized photo shoot with an Art Deco theme, it is important that the back drop that you choose fits the stylized theme. For this shoot we choose the Wells Theater. With it’s history and design, it was the perfect setting for these vintage styled images. How to Add the “Wow” Factor to Your Stylized Photo Shoot What can you add to your photo shoot that will be the icing on the cake? the cherry on top? For this shoot we thought a vintage Rolls Royce would be the icing on the cake! “Ask and Ye Shall Receive”…Think about the people you have access to just on Facebook alone, not to mention all of your social media. If there is a special prop that you are looking for, post it! We did that for our son’s wedding and people flooded my inbox willing to loan us the vintage props we were looking for! Trent’s mommy and daddy were gifted a newborn photography session with us. What a great gift for anyone! Who doesn’t love a beautiful portrait session, especially if it is gifted to them! Trent’s mommy’s best friend, knew that a newborn photos were important. We pride ourselves in trying to give every family an amazing experience as well as amazing photos. For brand new mom’s and dad’s a great experience at a newborn photography session is important. We try to have an atmosphere that is calm so that the family can relax while we go to work photographing. At our studio, we always have a variety of props, blankets, hats and bows to create a unique newborn photo session. He was very patient as we wrapped, moved and adjusted him through out taking her newborn photos. He never even complained until it was time for him to refuel! We get really excited when we can incorporate mom and or dad into our newborn portrait sessions! We even talked Trent’s daddy into taking off his shirt for the photos! We knew that they would turn out great! It’s hard to find anything more precious then daddy loving on his precious new baby boy. As you can see, Trent didn’t complain one bit! Sweet Newborn Photos…I love this Face! Getting close up photos of precious newborn faces are the best. All newborns are beautiful, almost angelic. Sweet Trent is no different. We achieve this by surveying our surroundings and using unique composition and lighting. When a bride and groom give us such a gorgeous location is it hard to go wrong. Here are two wedding portraits outside the historic Lower United Methodist Church. This s a great example of both of more of a traditional wedding portrait, and while in the same location, using a more unique wedding photography approach. Wedding Reception Detail Photos Photographing wedding reception details is an important job as a wedding photographer. Jon and Melissa had such amazing reception details that we can’t show them all here, but here are some of our favorites! Engagement Session | Jon & Melissa
Engagement Session – Melissa & Jon Are you getting engaged? Are you looking for a creative engagement session? Contact us today. Melissa and Jon are engaged. We were excited to photograph their engagement pictures. Jon’s family owns property in Urbanna, Virginia. When they asked if we could travel to do their engagement session, we were excited. We always love exploring new areas. We love photographing destination weddings and destination photo sessions. The property where these engagement pictures were taken, is where their wedding reception would be held. It is property located on a historic horse race track. Urbanna, Virginia Historic Race Track This historic horse race track. was the home of many Kentucky Derby race horses. It originated in the 1920s. Many horses were bred and trained here. One of the most famous race horses that was raised on this farm was Sun Beau. You can learn more about him here. The property was as amazing as Melissa and Jon. We love to photograph engagement sessions. When we photograph couples in an area that has history,we love it even more! The area was full of vacant horse stables. These structures were absolutely stunning. Almost as stunning as Melissa and Jon. Outdoor Engagement Session Photographing outdoor engagement sessions always offers a variety of backgrounds. This especially happens when you are on a farm in Urbanna, Virginia. We always are looking for a variety of back grounds and settings. This farm was full of creative back drops and scenery. Landscape Photography Scott’s background comes from landscape photography. He has a love for beautiful landscapes. When we are photographing an portrait sessions we are always looking for things that we can compose in the foreground. Adding interest in the foreground of your subject creates added interest in your images. It also helps our clients remember exactly where they were and how they felt at the time the shutter snaps. Pet Photography Many of our engaged couples are pet owners of some very special pets. We love to incorporate pets into our portrait sessions. Whether it is an engagement session, high school senior portrait session or family session, including your pet creates lasting memories. Meet Melissa and Jon’s beautiful Basset Hounds. They were like models. They did great on their first official photo shoot! Wait until you see their adorable wedding cake topper! It is a replica of these two precious puppies. Sunset Engagement Session We love scheduling our portrait sessions around the golden hour. In photography the golden hour would be one hour prior to sunset. By photographing a portrait session during that hour you are almost guaranteed great light. Great light is everything to creating a great portrait. Melissa and Jon have an amazing pier that sets on the river. As you can see, a combination of a beautiful couple, beautiful light and a beautiful setting creates beautiful portraits! In talking to them both on multiple occasions, we knew that the venue for the wedding would be breathtaking. They chose to have their wedding ceremony and reception at the historic Upper Brandon Plantation. Upper Brandon Plantation Wedding The Upper Brandon Plantation is an amazing property full of history. The main house was built in 1825. You can learn more about the Upper Brandon Plantation here. Not only is the property filled with historical elements and buildings, it’s landscape offers the perfect backdrop for an amazing wedding. Wedding Photography | Preparation and Detail Photos We always begin our wedding day by photographing details. Detail shots are critical to a wedding. Our details shots not only consist of the gown, shoes, rings, etc, but every detail element. Our brides and grooms are spending so much time designing the perfect wedding day we make sure that we capture it all. If you are a wedding photographer and are stumped with what photos are critical on a wedding day, we can help. (click on an image to enlarge) The First Look Photos Molly and Eddie, like many other couples decided to do a first look. We personally refer to it at our studio as a private meeting. It is simply a time where the bride and groom see each other for the first time. This private meeting is just that, private. We set up a beautiful location where they meet. This meeting takes place prior to the ceremony. We find that when a bride and groom see each other prior to the ceremony, it often helps them relax. During this time we are able to capture real emotion through our wedding photography. The Wedding Ceremony The wedding ceremony at the Upper Brandon Plantation took place that the gorgeous gazebo. (click on an image to enlarge) Bridal Party Portraits We love our time that we get to spend at a wedding with the bridal party. We strive to always capture great traditional portraits and well as more creative wedding portraits. Sometimes you feel like you have to wrangle a large bridal party in order to capture a great wedding photo, but as you can see, this bridal party was a piece of cake! Look at this cute bridal party portrait with the ring bearer and flower girl. By this time of the day Lucy and Xander’s patience was running out. To keep them engaged we decided to incorporate a little fun. We told them that they could run in this picture. What a great way to create fun for a 2 and 4 year old and capture a great bridal party portrait! Wedding Photography Portraits Alas, our favorite portrait time of the day. We cherish the time we get to spend with the bride and groom on their wedding day. We love creating lasting memories and portraits. This day was no different. One of the more beautiful things we capture is the love between a bride and groom. A wedding day is one of the most happiest days in our couple’s lives. This makes capturing amazing wedding portraits easy for us. As a wedding photographer, we are responsible for posing and capturing amazing portraits. We strive to pose our creative wedding portraits in a way that look natural and more candid. We also try to also incorporate dramatic lighting to create some awesome wedding photos. We love when engagement season and wedding season arrive. It creates quite a stir of excitement in our studio. Choosing a Location for Your Engagement Session Choosing a location for your engagement session is critical to the outcome of your final images. We always encourage our couples to choose a location that is near and dear to their hearts. If you viewed Molly and Eddie’s first session they chose to be photographed at Blue Bird Gap. Blue Bird Gap was perfect for Molly and Eddie. They love the outdoors. Blue Bird Gap offered an array of beautiful backgrounds for their engagement session. For the second part of their engagement portrait session we recommended shooting in a historic location. We are always looking for locations that offer texture, color and a variety of settings. Incorporating interesting textures and backgrounds add interest to your image. It encourages the viewer to explore deeper into the picture. Creative Photographic Lighting Creative lighting is something that is a signature part of our brand. We are always experimenting with light. We love to create a mood or feeling in an image by different lighting techniques. In these images we have used a photographic lighting technique called off camera lighting.
