WPPI 2012 | Virginia Portrait Artist | Virginia Wedding and Destination Photographer
We have spent most of February out speaking at different venues, in different states, and before many photographers sharing how we do what we do. We have traveled from Florida to Arizona all in a short 29 days. We love the opportunity to hit the road and share about our photographic experience. Since the photographic industry has changed from photography film to digital, there are many changes that have been made in the way that we shoot, process and market. One of our stops in the month of February, was in Las Vegas, speaking at our national photography conference called WPPI. WPPI’s (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) attendance is generally 12,000 – 15,000 attracting photographers from all over the globe, so to be able to share there is an honor. This year we shared about wedding photography, both stateside and international, and about senior high photography . Thank you WPPI and H&H for the opportunity to share! Here are a few shots from the day. You can tell how passionate we are about sharing. It seems that every shot we have our mouths open!~
No Rules Workshop – Norfolk Photography Workshop
So we spilled the beans at our latest workshop as we met some real neat folks and dished out some serious knowledge. We just happened to have a most amazing model for the day as we explored the streets around our studio and messed around with some lights in the studio too. Thanks to Erin, our model for turning on her glam for us! Stay tuned for our next workshop as we may be headed your way soon, check it out here – www.norulesworkshop.com. Palm Springs, California, Riviera Hotel – Dustin & Missy’s Couples Shoot!
We winged our way out west to the spectacular Riviera Resort in Palm Springs, California for a shoot and it turned out to be just what my jet lag needed! A fun and somewhat “experimental” shoot using a variety of lighting techniques including, video lights, ambient, off-camera flash, ringlight, and reflectors…that about covers it all. Thanks Dustin & Missy for joining us and getting your groove on for this long distance shoot – you rock!
SYNC 2011 – No Rules Workshop
St. Petersburg, Florida….love that town. We carried our cold and weary bodies to the sunshine state to hang out with 400 of the craziest photographers on the planet. I mean, these guys & gals are serious about their photography and their business! It just felt weird to be shooting on the beach in February – I know I heard my camera say, “What the…?” until Alexis popped in front of it! Alexis was our model for the afternoon as we strolled around the Tradewinds resort for our shooting workshop. She did fabulous especially considering all the cameras pointing her way! We’re back in Norfolk now with snow & slush today but I think I will post some sunny pics of Alexis to warm our cold toes. Ahhh….
No Rules Workshop – Norfolk
Our first workshop in our shiny new studio! Our thanks go out to the Wells Theater in downtown Norfolk for allowing us to use their fabulous space for our shooting. 20 of us dodged the snowflakes and took cover in the historic theater where we kept warm and took some rather cool shots. Christ & St. Lukes Church loaned us their stunning sanctuary for some shots inside the church. Our model Rachel looked amazing in a gown from Pure English Bridal and a couple of gowns from All The Rage Virginia Beach. Brian was sporting some vintage fashions from Echoes in Time that fit in perfectly with the theme of the shoots. We love doing these workshops, especially when they are on our home turf and we know everyone came away with great shots and new friends. Our next local No Rules Workshop will be on April 13th where we will be focusing on shooting, editing, and image critique. Only 20 seats available and they will be going quick! Our teaching and workshop tour is kicking off in January so maybe we will be coming to a venue near you! Alaska Workshop – Bride & Groom Photoshoot
Alaska is big and far away. That did not stop us from heading north and putting on our teacher’s hat and hosting one of our No Rules Workshops in Anchorage, Alaska! We had just finished up our Aruba weddings so we criss-crossed our great land and landed at Nordby Photography where they hosted us for a few days of shooting and instructing. A totally different backdrop from our usual beaches and parks gave way to mountains and the great Alaska outback. This will go down as a most unique location with sunset around midnight and mountains and forests that only Alaska could offer. Here’s a few pics of our bride & groom shoot on the rocky coast of Alaska (more to come!) :
Orlando “No Rules Workshop”
A bit of retro was in order for our Orlando Workshop which seemed to fit with the host studio (Nielsens Photography) since their studio is in a train complete with an engine and all! We had folks from all over come in for this event including, Texas, Utah, Florida, and even Trinidad. A very diverse group for sure which made for lots of questions and interaction which we love. Mike and Ann totally rocked the 30’s vibe with the fedora & birdcage veil. Thanks to our models, our fellow photographers and of course the gorgeous Florida weather we had a blast! Check out the video courtesy of Shaking Hands Productions and a few of my favorites. Next stop – Michigan!
Houston Workshop
As many of you know we bounce around the country teaching our “No Rules” philosophy to whomever will listen. Houston gathered 80 of their finest photographers for our workshop last month and we got down and dirty with everything from marketing & business strategies to off-camera lighting & posing. We always cram a ton of info in our all-day workshops and this was no different – lots of questions, shooting and a few puzzled looks (yes, we saw you….!) Check out where we are headed next here and put down your pre-conceptions and join us! Here’s a few shots from the Houston No Rules Workshop. Stay tuned for some sweetness from Orlando!
Ty and Shannon
Shooting another photographer is always a bit different than a “normal” shoot but this one was different…in a good way!. We met Ty and Shannon at our workshop in Tampa last week and we had a great time talking photography and just getting to know each other. We were actually in Tampa for a senior (High School) convention but we always love shooting a couple when we get a chance. We jumped in the car and drove around looking for some cool spots and stumbled on a ’57 Chevy, an old marina, and of course a Florida sunset. Niiiiice….. We topped the night off with some Mexican eats. Check out Ty & Shannon and their awesomeness!
SPA model 2010 – Aubree!
Yes, call me a California wannabe. We winged our way out to San Diego for the 2010 Senior Portrait Artists (SPA) convention last week and came back energized and excited about what we were going to do in 2010 for our seniors! The fabulous Hotel del Coronado provided a backdrop for our shooting workshop with our senior models, Aubree and Brittany. They were both amazing and the California sand & sun gave us all kinds of opportunities for some great shooting. Thanks to SPA for inviting us to San Diego to give folks a taste of what our workshops are like. Stay tuned for a few shots of Brittany tomorrow!
