As a wedding photographer we love beautiful people and beautiful venues. We had both of those with Katie and Josh. They chose one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Norfolk. The newly remodeled Chrysler Museum of Art is simply stunning. To add to the interest of Katie and Josh’s wedding day, there was a very special traveling piece of art of display in the Hague River. It was the traveling duck designed by Florentijn Hofman. Katie really wasn’t upset with the duck, we just thought we would create some fun wedding pictures with it. Since the duck it about 40′ tall, embracing it really wasn’t an option.   Wedding Day Photography If you missed their first blog post, you may want to read more about Katie and Josh’s wedding day. Chrysler Museum Wedding Photographer – – Melissa and Seth’s Jewish Wedding

Bride and Groom Night Photo

Chrysler Museum Wedding Photographer Are you getting married and looking for your wedding photographer? Contact us today for more details.   Melissa and Seth’s Jewish Wedding It was a beautiful weekend when we photographed Melissa and Seth’s wedding. It was a Sunday wedding and was the perfect way to finish out the weekend. As a wedding photographer we are always excited about what traditions will be celebrated. To be a well rounded wedding photographer, you must be familiar with all traditions. Whether it’s a Protestant wedding, a Jewish wedding, an Indian wedding, a Greek Orthodox wedding, it makes no difference to us. We are very familiar with all of them and the traditions that we will be photographing. For Melissa and Seth, it was a beautiful Jewish wedding. Their wedding was complete with a custom, beautiful Ketubah, a gorgeous Chuppah and breaking the glass. They had it all, and then some. Not only was the weather perfect for a wedding, the location was equally as great. They were married at the newly remodeled Chrysler Museum of Art. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Chrysler in a while you will love what they have done! We love to work with amazing couples and their families. We also love working with amazing vendors. The wedding day was under the direction of Antonia Christianson Events. As a wedding photographer we love working with great coordinators. They make our day flawless. Many other great vendors were in attendance helping the wedding go off with out a hitch. Fluttering Flowers, Cake Delights, Cuisine and Company, Stage Right Lighting, The Boardwalk Photobooth Company, Kristal Lane Beauty and the band, In Full. Melissa’s gown was from Wedding Atelier. We just loved her wedding gown with the beautiful bolero. (click on image to enlarge)   Wedding Preparation Photography For a wedding photographer, we feel it is important to have creative wedding photos. That is true for every phases of a wedding day. When we are taking photos during preparation, we are always looking for different angles and composition. When you add these elements it creates interest in your wedding photos. If you are a photographer and are stumped on creative composition, our wedding day guide may help. Groom Getting Ready (click on image to enlarge) Should I Have a First Look? Why a first look, you may ask.  As a wedding photographer, we have photographed hundreds of weddings. When one of our bride and groom’s have a “first look”, we find these results. 1. The bride and groom feel complete once they see each other. The wedding day, no matter how prepared you are, you are going to have butterflies. We find that when our bride and groom chose a first look, those butterflies are diminished immediately! 2. It’s the best that a bride is going to look on her wedding day! Dress perfect…check, make up perfect…check, and hair perfect….check, check. 3. It gives a bride and groom some down time to really enjoy each other on a hectic wedding day.   How Do We Photograph a First Look? 1. We find a beautiful location that is undisturbed by people, so it is truly a private meeting. 2. We have the groom facing away so that the bride can approach from behind. This allows a great opportunity for great photos. The expression on a groom’s face as he hears his loved one approaching is amazing. Here is a video that has a real first look at the Chrysler Museum. 3. We always respect the bride and groom’s privacy. 4. Real Emotion. Often it is hard for a groom to let down his guard in a ceremony where he is surrounded by all the guests. Men don’t often like to let down their guard in a group, but in private, it’s different. 5. During a first look we will have two of us photographing. One will be focusing on the bride’s reactions and one focused on the groom. This helps tells the whole story. 6. We capture a few other great photos during that time. After the first look has happened, we get to spend a little extra time capturing additional great pictures.   Melissa and Seth’s First Look I think that you will agree, Melissa can not take a bad photo. She is simply stunning! Bride and Groom (click on image to enlarge)    Jewish Wedding Ceremony Photos Melissa and Seth’s wedding ceremony took place in the stunning Mary’s Garden. Here are a few of our favorite wedding ceremony pictures. Bride’s Procession into Ceremony with Parent’s Well Wishes Prayer Shawl The Marriage Ring If you’d like to learn more about Jewish Wedding traditions, here is one article.   Creative Bridal Party Pictures When you are a wedding photographer you are always trying to be creative when it come to the bridal party photos. At Melissa and Seth’s wedding, we hardly had to think. These crazy masks have a sentimental meaning behind them. If you see Melissa and Seth, you will have to ask them the story! Running from the Rubber Duck This monstrous size is 10x11x13 meters. Though I am not good at converting metrics, trust my it’s huge! This traveling sculpture by Florentijn Hofman has and is literally traveling the world. Though Melissa and Seth were not super excited about it being on location at their wedding, we still had fun with it!   We would love to be your wedding photographer! Bride and Groom

Founders Inn Wedding Are you having a Founders Inn Wedding? We would love to give you more information on our wedding photography! Contact us today. Allison and Ryan’s Wedding Day I love a good wedding and a Founders Inn Wedding with Allison and Ryan was just what the doctor ordered. The style of the inn is very southern and so was the style of the wedding day. What a perfect setting for the perfect wedding. The day couldn’t have been more beautiful. The skies were blue and the temperatures were perfect. Brides and grooms long for a Chamber of Commerce Day. Allison and Ryan were happy recipients of it. (Click on the image to enlarge)   ’53 Chevy Photos When it comes to a limo for your wedding day, how about a great ’53 Chevy? Allison and Ryan wanted to ride in style. We also used the car in our first look photos. What a beautiful prop for such a special time. Check out there first look photos. (Click on image to enlarge)   Bride and Groom Portraits We love our special photo shoot time on a wedding day with the bride and groom. The wedding day timeline is fairly strict so we have to work quickly to create amazing wedding day photos. The Founders in is such an amazing background and Allison and Ryan and gorgeous, this made our job easy.   Bridal and Wedding Flowers There are so many details of a wedding day, it is important for us to capture them all. So much time goes into the wedding planning process. Flowers are a very important part of that. Having flowers that compliment your wedding theme, wedding colors and style is critical. I think that you will agree that Davids has created the perfect floral design.   Are you having a Founders Inn wedding and are searching for a wedding photographer? Look no further. Chrysler Museum Wedding – Katie and Josh

Bride and Groom on Staircase

Chrysler Museum Wedding Are you getting married at the Chrysler Museum? Are you looking for a wedding photographer? Contact us today for more information.     Katie and Josh Meet Katie and Josh. We were so honored that they chose us to be their wedding photographer. My running joke is that we only photographed beautiful people. You can see why that statement is true. Katie was breathtaking in her gorgeous wedding gown from Ava Laurenne Bride. Josh, well, he wasn’t so bad either. He was very handsome in his wedding attire. The wedding day was amazing partly because it was under the direction of Carolyn at Signature Weddings. The floral design was by the one and only Daevids.Their cake artist was Incredible Edibles Bakery. There were many other amazing vendors that made their wedding day dreams come true. Some of them were Stage Right Lighting, Make Up by Kim Porter, The Boardwalk Photobooth Company and Cuisine and Company. Beautiful Bride (click on image to enlarge) The Wedding Ceremony Wedding ceremony’s at the Chrysler Museum are always beautiful to photograph. The museum is beautiful and the addition of the orchid wall adds an amazing background to any celebration. (click on image to enlarge) The Invasion of the Duck Well, in case you haven’t heard, there was an invasion of a duck…a large rubber duck. The Chrysler Museum hosted the Rubber Duck sculpture during the busy Memorial Day weekend. This duck was designed by Florentjin Hofman. It is traveling art that is literally seeing the world. It has been in Holland, France, Brazil, Australia, China and Azerbaijan. It has been a very busy duck! Though Katie was not excited about the duck, she embraced him in the end. Private Pictures with the Bride and Groom I can tell you right now, that this is my favorite photo time of the entire wedding day. Yes, we love to cover the ceremony. Yes, we love to photograph the reception, however, there is not a more precious time then our time spent with the bride and groom. We love to create beautiful portraits of their once in a lifetime event. (click on image to enlarge) Wedding Reception Photography A wedding reception is an exciting time. It is the time that as a guest you get to let your guard down. With Katie and Josh they chose a stunning decor for their reception. Stage Right Lighting set the mood. If our clients are having a Chrysler Museum Wedding, we always encourage them to have decorative lighting. In these images you can see how it brings a venue to life. Stylized Photo Shoot

Greta Garbo Style Photo

Stylized Photo Shoot Art Deco Style Are you dreaming of a stylized portrait session? Contact us and we will photograph it! Photographing a stylized photo shoot is always a great creative avenue for a photographer. To have someone prepare a thematic photo shoot with all the details is a photographers dream. It is a great time as a photographer to just slow down and create amazing photos. How to Plan a Stylized Photo Shoot A stylized or thematic photo shoot plan includes lots of background work and research. In order to have an effective photo shoot you need to ensure that you do a lot of research. This includes collecting all the elements needed to accomplish the photo shoot goal. If you have connections to great vendors, this is a wonderful opportunity to partner with them to achieve the same final goal…great marketable images for all! This Art Deco Photo Shoot was directed by Tanya Frazier of Graceful Designs She then partnered with Ava Clara Bridal Boutique, Royal Coach, The Wells Theater, Beecroft and Bull, hair and make up artist Jaqueline and Jessica Horton. Floral and linens by Graceful Designs. What Type of Stylized Photo Shoot Will I Plan When thinking about a thematic photo shoot, first you should think about the end goal. What type of images are you trying to portray? Modern, traditional or vintage photos? Why are you producing these stylized photos? What age would you like your model or models to be? Is the setting going to be industrial, contemporary or historic? What elements do you need to make your vision come to life? For this photo shoot Tanya wanted a vintage, Art Deco style. These images will be used in an upcoming publication of her latest magazine. Conceptualizing Your Thematic Photo Shoot Once you have decided on the basic elements of your thematic photo shoot, it is now time to start envisioning your photos. Who do you want to use as models? What will the models wear? Where will the photo shoot take place? Tanya wanted a two female bride models in their 20s and 30s. She only wanted one groom model. She decided that she wanted glamorous, vintage and unique images. Choose the Right Clothing for Your Stylized Shoot Now it is time for the fun stuff! Finding the right couture for your concept. For this shoot we were able to use gowns, accessories, shoes, etc, from Ava Clara. A wonderful thing with working with knowledgeable vendors like Ava Clara, is giving them your vision and allowing them to run with it. This dress boutique knew the perfect Art Deco wedding gowns and accessories to choose. They put together two complete looks for each of our bride models. (click on each image to enlarge) Beecroft and Bull did the same. We gave them the vision and they choose the perfect Art Deco wedding couture to do with it. Where to Photograph a Stylized Shoot When planning a stylized photo shoot with an Art Deco theme, it is important that the back drop that you choose fits the stylized theme. For this shoot we choose the Wells Theater. With it’s history and design, it was the perfect setting for these vintage styled images. How to Add the “Wow” Factor to Your Stylized Photo Shoot What can you add to your photo shoot that will be the icing on the cake? the cherry on top? For this shoot we thought a vintage Rolls Royce would be the icing on the cake!   “Ask and Ye Shall Receive”…Think about the people you have access to just on Facebook alone, not to mention all of your social media. If there is a special prop that you are looking for, post it! We did that for our son’s wedding and people flooded my inbox willing to loan us the vintage props we were looking for! Check out this Vintage Styled Wedding. If you are looking for a photographer to photograph your stylized photo shoot, contact us today! Want to see more stylized shoots? Check out this vintage maternity session!

San Francisco Wedding | Hayne Photographers

Hayne Photographers Wedding

When we were called by Serena and Jason to shoot their wedding in San Francisco, we were thrilled. We are destination wedding photographers. It wasn’t a destination wedding for Serena and Jason who live in San Francisco. They simply loved our wedding photography and wanted us to shoot their wedding. San Francisco Wedding Photography San Fran was an amazing backdrop for their gorgeous wedding photos. Since the groom attended Stanford University, we made the short trip to the campus to photograph the bride and groom in a place that is special to them both. Serena and Jason rented the vintage car for the photographs. Props can make a huge impact in photography and we think this prop was well chosen! Serena really had some special touches at her wedding. She had handkerchiefs embroidered with beautiful sayings for her mother and grandmother. More details included the bride and groom’s “signature drink” during cocktail hour and a casino themed reception room. All of these details are forever memorialized in her beautiful wedding photography. Photographing Wedding Details (click on images to enlarge) Every detail counts! We try to photograph them all. We know that brides spend months of wedding planning to create the perfect ceremony and reception. Capturing all the details really tells the complete story of her wedding. The Ceremony Photos (click on photos to enlarge) Serena and Jason’s wedding ceremony site overlooked a reservoir; it was breathtaking and we took advantage of the scenery to get some impactful images. Even when we travel, we bring all of our wedding photography equipment. We have the latest camera technology, lenses, and editing equipment to get the dramatic images you see here. In addition to photographing the bride and groom’s wedding, they wanted an additional San Francisco wedding photography after shoot. An after shoot is a chance to get even more great wedding photography that wouldn’t be possible on the wedding day. (click on photos to enlarge) We traveled around San Fran incorporating landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Baker’s Beach, the stunning court house and theater into their wedding photography. This San Francisco wedding photography, is just one example of the many destination weddings we shoot. Our home is in Norfolk, Virginia. We are minutes away from Virginia Beach, a popular place for wedding photography. We hope you’ll visit our wedding photography portfolio for more great wedding photography ideas. Historic Hampton University Chapel Wedding

Beautiful Hampton Wedding Photography

Historic Hampton University Chapel Wedding Beautiful wedding photos show depth of emotion by highlighting details that could easily be missed. This bridal portrait truly captures the beauty of bride Lauren, and her incredible choice of wedding locations. Lauren was a stunning bride. After photographing her bridal portraits at the Chamberlain Hotel three months prior to her wedding, we knew the wedding day would be amazing. And, it was! We have to applaud Tanya Frasier of Graceful Designs who coordinated the event. Lauren’s gown was from Pure English in Virginia Beach, Va and it looked spectacular in the photos. Lauren & Ian’s wedding ceremony took place at the historic Hampton University Chapel. The reception was at the Chamberlain Hotel. This hotel is also historic. It has now been converted from a pre 1900 officers quarters for Fort Monroe, to a hotel and upscale retirement community. (click on photos to enlarge) More Beautiful Wedding Photos of more Historic Hampton University Chapel and the Chamberlain Hotel Weddings (click on images to enlarge) Historic Chapel Wedding Photography One special request this bride and groom had was to do table shots with all of their guests. This is really a thoughtful thing for brides to do and help preserve the memories of each person who attended the wedding! In spite of torrential rain during preparation and the ceremony, the photography went off without a hitch. Rain on the wedding day is considered good luck. In Lauren and Ian’s case, we certainly agree. When a bride books wedding photography with us, we often find that their friends come to us for their weddings too. Lauren’s cousin loved her photos and has booked a June wedding with us. We’re so excited to do another wedding for this lovely family! (click on images to enlarge)

Wedding Photographers | Keisha and Scott Got Married

Are you planning a wedding? Contact us today! Wedding Photographers Keisha and Scott got married! I can’t think of a more exciting time in life then a wedding. Keisha and Scott have been our clients for years. They actually found us through other clients. We love that we have clients that love us and share with others about us. What an honor to be chosen to be Keisha and Scott’s wedding photographers. We knew it was going to be a spectacular day. Brooch Bouquet Brooch bouquets are stunning. They have become more popular this wedding season. This brooch bouquet was hand made for Keisha. Brooch bouquets are sparkly, glamorous and they are a keepsake after the wedding day. Brides seem to love these bouquets because they are easily customizable. See the brooch bouquets from Ben and Lauren’s wedding Ring Detail Shots Detail shots are critically important at a wedding. Weddings today are full of intricate details that must be captured. One detail that we enjoy photographing are creative wedding ring photos. Norfolk Skyline Photos In the timeline planning for their wedding, they had a “must have” shot request. Keisha and Scott love the Norfolk skyline and wanted that in a photo. Photographing Norfolk from Portsmouth creates stunning wedding photos. We suggested to the bride and groom that we plan to photograph the skyline at just past sunset. By choosing that time, there would still be light in the sky and all the city lights would be on. That is a winning combination for a city photograph.   Would you like information about us being your wedding photographers? Contact us today! Vintage Themed Wedding Photography

Virginia Beach Wedding Photography

Our Son:  Hunter and New Daugther in Law Sharayu’s Vintage Themed Wedding Photography Being a wedding photographer and photographing beautiful weddings is always fulfilling. Being a wedding photographer and photographing your own son’s wedding is a double portion of joy!  Wedding’s like this don’t come around very often, especially when it is your own children. Hunter and Sharayu were engaged in February and decided they didn’t want a long engagement.  With the stress of the tight timeline, our dream team was still able to make our day absolutely flawless and magical. Now, sit back and relax. Enjoy our vintage themed wedding photography and gather ideas for your own vintage themed wedding. Beach Wedding Ceremony (Click on Gallery Photo Below to Enlarge) Vintage Themed Reception (click on photos to enlarge)   How We Pulled Off the Vintage Theme Since we’re in the wedding industry we knew first hand who we wanted to be a part of this very special day.  Choosing wedding vendors is so important.  You don’t want any disappointment on your very special day.  For us, we went to the “dream team” of Virginia Beach and Norfolk weddings. With the overall direction of the one and only Antonia, or my Missy of Antonia Christianson Events  she got the ball rolling.  We quickly sat down with Daevid of Daevids and presented him with our style of the event.  A truly vintage wedding is what Sharayu wanted.  Daevid used his amazing artistry to create the entire, and I mean entire, event. The next step was the cake.  There was only one and it is Emily of Patti Cakes. There could never be another.  Then there is Jeremy.  No other lights our world or venues like him.  Jeremy of Blue Steel Lighting Design continued the vintage feel with amazing Edison lighting. Then there was catering.  Jodi of Sweetwater Cuisine  not only brings amazing food, but amazing people AND amazing design elements.  Hunter and Sharayu wanted relaxed food. Jodi did her magic and even brought a butter urn to dip your roasted cobs in!  There were cars, more cars, trucks, bikes and a vintage motorcycle.  All from amazing clients and friends. We knew the day would not be complete without an amazing car like a vintage Rolls Royce owned by Bob Hunter of Royal Coach.  With all these great vendors in one place we wanted a video of the amazing artistry. Dave of Vistionary Pro did an amazing job. There were so many more that helped bring our event to life.  All of these folks have impacted our lives in such an incredible way.  Thank you for using your artistry and gifts for Hunter and Sharayu’s wedding day!
