Click here to contact us today for your appointment. Newborn Comfort On today’s session we had one week old Sebastian. We love photographing infants as they are easy to position and have a good temperament. Sebastian was a dream to work with. This provided us with many amazing images from his photo shoot. When working with calm infants as a photographer, it’s a great time to use photography props. They not only provide comfort for the child but also an eye catching appeal. We strive to make sure that every infant we work with are well taken care of. Creative ways to add comfort to your newborn sessions is by adding in comfy blankets or hats or by swaddling. This also helps to keep the child calm during pictures. Here are some examples: Personal Touches For this session the family wanted to add personal elements to Sebastian’s photo’s. They had custom a dinosaur hat made that they thought would go perfectly with his pictures. Etsy is a great place to find unique photography props. The creator of this adorable hat has her own Etsy shop. View her store and products here. They also wanted to add in elements from the church where Sebastian’s father is the campus pastor. We love it when families are able to incorporate their everyday life into their photos. Including You In The Newborn Session We always want the infant’s family to be a part of their child’s photography session. When parents join in the session, we are able to try different lighting techniques to create even more beautiful photographic pictures. Vintage Themed Maternity Photography | Maternity Photographer
Are you pregnant and looking to have maternity portraits taken? Contact us today! Maternity Photography The weather was absolutely beautiful for Larry and Jessi’s maternity photography session. After a cold winter, warm temperatures were a perfect setting for a gorgeous evening to take portraits. When you look at Jessi, it is hard to believe that she is due any day. She is 9 months pregnant. She will be the envy of all pregnant mothers to be when they look at these photos. We had to make a conscious effort to make sure that we posed her sideways. That way we would ensure that the viewer would know that she is pregnant. We also photographed a couples session for Larry and Jessi. Click on image to enlarge Since Jessi found out she was pregnant she started dreaming about her maternity portrait session. She knew from the beginning that she wanted something unique. She decided that a vintage themed photo shoot was what she wanted. Having months to plan, we were able to find the perfect location. In searching for a location we wanted rustic buildings, texture and a grassy field to photograph. In Smithfield we found the answer. Click on image to enlarge We think the best time to schedule a maternity photography session is from 7-9 months. Vintage Themed Photo Shoot In a vintage themed photo shoot is it important to consider several things. The location, the dress and props are critical. Larry and Jessi did an amazing job choosing the perfect outfits. We brought an authentic vintage steamer trunk and a chair. With that combination we were able to create some unique vintage themed maternity portraits. Click on image to enlarge Sunset Maternity Portraits One additional critical element in creating a vintage themed photography session is picking the right time of the day to photograph. When we think of vintage photos we think of warm light. Scheduling them at sunset was key. For Larry and Jessi, this is their last pregnancy. Grayson Thomas will be their third child and it’s a boy! They already have two beautiful girls. Because it is their last, they knew they wanted something very special for their photo session. Newborn Photography | Baby Jamie
Today we had the opportunity to photograph baby Jamie. We photographed her at our downtown Norfolk studio. Many parents schedule their newborn baby photography weeks or months before their due date. Scheduling early ensures that we’ll be available to photograph the newborn while the baby is between 5 days and 2 weeks old. Babies settle into poses easily at this time. (Click on images to view larger) Jamie was actually 3 weeks old. She had contracted a cold right before her original scheduled session. Luckily, we were able to photographer her soon after. She was a perfect, tiny model. Mom and Dad relaxed as they grabbed a snack in our waiting area. The studio is visible from the comfort of the waiting area. They could watch Scott and I hard at work. We placed Jamie in a variety of adorable poses. Photographing newborns is one of the most rewarding photo shoots that we do. When we capture the perfect image of someone’s precious child, the results are priceless. Newborn Photography Highlights There are so many highlights for me when photographing newborns. My favorite part of photographing any baby is getting her in the perfect position. I strive to capture that once in a lifetime portrait. With newborns, sometimes it’s easy and sometimes that takes a bit of work. My favorite image from Jamie’s photo shoot is the photograph of her on the vintage scale and steamer trunk. We love to be able to incorporate authentic vintage props into our newborn portraits. At the studio, we have a variety of props that are prefect for newborns. Newborn Portraits in Our Norfolk Studio Meet sweet Ashton. How can you not adore newborn portraits? Oh, how I wish we had come into the photography industry when our children were babies. It was Morrison one year portrait day at the studio. What a birthday celebration it was! We have been fortunate enough to be a part of his life for a while now. For Morrision’s birthday portraits the family wanted a vintage feel to his session. We were able to use the sepia tones to give the finished portraits a vintage tone. When shooting a vintage theme incorporating vintage props helps set the feel of the photo. Last we couldn’t resist doing one undressed portrait. There are only a couple of times in life when those sweet body rolls are cute. One is at a newborn session and the other is at a 1 year birthday photo session! Having a baby plan allows family to have professional portraits taken every 3 months. We begin our baby plans at the newborn session. They continue through the first year of the child’s life. She was at our studio for her 6 month portrait session. Noelle’s family loves to document their family through portraits. They purchased a baby plan with us. A baby plan documents your baby for the first year of their life. The first year of your child’s life there are so many changes that happen. What better way to document those changes then with beautiful photos. Meet sweet Noelle. Today she had a special blue and white dress for her special 6 month portraits. With babies we have to work quickly since their attention span is very short. We have have to have our sets prepared and ready to go when our clients walk in. We started photographing Noelle in the studio. We were able to capture some special portraits for this half year birthday girl. Having our studio is great when photographing children. For Noelle we did her newborn and three month portraits in our studio. For her 6 month portraits we wanted to mix it up a bit. The weather was beautiful so we were able to take Noelle to the outdoor areas of our studio. We were able to capture this precious photo of her in the grass. The last picture that we captured was with her mom and dad. Though Noelle couldn’t walk yet, we still wanted to try a walking picture. We love to create this type of photo at all of our 6 month old portrait session. It creates such a cute portrait. We pose the child between mom and dad. Though they can’t walk, with the support of mom and dad it appears she is walking. It is also great to end a portrait session with because the child thinks it’s fun! Happy half birthday Noelle! Family portraits in the park…sometimes it can be a great experience and sometimes it is the unknown when dealing with little ones. We always try to schedule our families with young children around the time of the day when the children are the most happy. As you can see from these pictures, I think we hit the nail on the head.
