Outdoor Family Portraits | The Hodges Family

Outdoor-Family-Portraits

Outdoor Family Portraits Are you interested in having outdoor family portraits taken? Contact us today for more information. Let me start by saying what an honor it is to photograph the Hodges family. We have been photographing them for years. We first met them in 2008 where Stu Hodges of Waters Edge Church, was officiating the wedding. I will tell you that in meeting both Stu and Tabitha Hodges, it was love at first sight. Shortly after that wedding, they brought us their children to us for a photography session. In 2010 Waters Edge Church hired us to photograph their live cd that they were recording. You can view some of those musician shots here.  In 2011, we started attending Waters Edge Church. We now have made photographing the Hodges family an annual event. Outdoor Family Portrait Sessions We love outdoor family portrait sessions. In creating great portrait sessions choosing the right location and the right lighting is key. We are always searching for great places to have our outdoor family portrait sessions. We have come to love Windsor Castle Park.  When we are looking for an outdoor location for photographing, we look for color, texture and lighting. Windsor Castle Park works perfectly for those three. We like to have interesting backgrounds in our images with color and texture. When you choose an area that has interesting backgrounds it adds visual stimulation for the viewer that otherwise could be quite boring. We often incorporate the landscape of where the photo session takes place. We do a balance of wide angle and telephoto shots. The reason for the wide angle is to incorporate the backgrounds. We want families to remember not only their photos but the experience they had on a photo session. We always try to create a great experience for all of our photography sessions. We want our families to remember what it was like. We want them to remember where they were. We want them to remember things that happened. Really, we want them to remember what a great experience they had. The last key element is lighting. As a photographer, lighting is everything. We often schedule our family portraits close to sunset so that we are able to capture the sweet light. We also incorporate some flash for great exposures and in some images moodiness. If you are a photographer and need help with your photographic lighting, this may help. Casual Family Portrait Children’s Portraits and Sibling Portraits On every family photo shoot we will break away to photograph the children. When we are photographing them we will do different groupings. We always photograph the child together. We will pose them as a group and then also incorporate some casual, fun sibling portraits. After photographing the siblings together, we will photograph the children individually. Parent Portraits When we are photographing the family portrait session we also ensure that we get some great images of mom and dad. (click on an image to enlarge) Here are some more of our favorite photos from their session. (click on an image to enlarge) Scheduling a Family Portrait Session Let me start with, never put off til tomorrow what I should do today. Many of you reading this have probably contemplated scheduling family portraits for a while, sometimes years. I understand because it used to be the same for me. I didn’t want to deal with coordinating outfits, choosing a location and most of all getting everyone’s schedules to agree. At Hayne Photographers, we make it easy for you to schedule your family portraits. We provide you with an online magazine that is a style guide and also we are happy to choose the location! The only thing that we can’t do is make your family’s schedule align. Check out more of our family portraits. Reasons You Should Schedule Your Family Portrait Session Memories. Family portrait sessions should be fun. When you set aside time as a family for your session you not only will get a great portrait, but a great memory from the experience. See the changes in your family yearly. Watching your child develop from a child to a teenager to an adult is all worthy of capturing in a great family portrait. Your children change from year to year. Your children are getting older and will be heading off to college. You have added a new family member. This could be a spouse, a baby or a pet.   Are you ready to schedule your family portrait session? Contact us today!

San Francisco Engagement Session | Sara & Rich

beautiful-sunset-engagement-picture

San Francisco Engagement Session Are you recently engagement and looking for a photographer for your San Francisco engagement pictures? Contact us today for more details. Want to see more of our engagement photos? Engagement Sessions Ah…who doesn’t love a beautiful engagement session. For us, there is nothing more beautiful then photographing two people in love. We had a great time with Sara and Rich on their engagement photo shoot. We were lucky that those chose us to photograph both their engagement session and their wedding. Both their engagement session and wedding were in San Francisco. We had never met Sara and Rich until our plane landed and we met up at Baker Beach. Baker Beach is such a gorgeous place to photograph. The setting couldn’t be more gorgeous. On a clear or nearly clear day there is a spectacular view of the Golden Gate Bridge. What could be more iconic to San Francisco then that? We learned about the Baker Beach Golden Gate Bridge perspective while shooting a maternity session there last year. You can view that here. The big contrast between these two photo sessions on Baker Beach was the fog. For Sara and Rich we had a “Chamber of Commerce” type of day, or in other words, perfect. For our maternity session, it was a typical San Francisco foggy day, however, still beautiful in it’s own right. We have such amazing clients. Not only do we only have gorgeous clients, but they are willing to do anything for a great engagement picture! At moments on their session the air became quite breezy and brisk. There were no complaints from the stunningly dressed Sara in her gorgeous dress. Then there was also the hiking up the weather worn, out of level, rocks we trekked to capture the crashing of the San Francisco Bay. Still no complaints from Sara and Rich.   Outdoor Engagement Photos We love our outdoor engagement sessions. We love photographing beautiful people in beautiful locations. Scott comes from a landscape photography background. Now that you know that, looking at his images, I think that it will be an ah ha moment for you. We often incorporate the landscape into our images. It gives the viewer a since of where they were, and also the subject, or client, can recall many details that may have been missed during the photo shoot. These things may be how green the grass was, the rustling in the branches or the waves crashing on the shore. Sometimes it’s difficult for the subject to remember all of that. When we shoot with this perspective, it brings back all those wonderful details of the area where their photo shoot took place. If you are a photographer and you see some poses that you like, you may be interested in our Couples Posing Guide. Sara and Rich were great subjects and posed well on their own, however, it is great to always have a reference when you need one! Here are some more of our favorite engagement session photos. We are international destination wedding photographers serving the USA and beyond.

Actor Headshot and Model Headshot Photographer | Marquis

model-portfolio-session

Actor Headshot and Model Headshot Photographer Are you looking to update our actor headshots or your model headshots? Contact us for more of our actor and model portfolio sessions.   Actor Headshot and Modeling Portfolio We are a actor and model headshot photographer. For Marquis, he was in need of both. He was headed to Orlando, Florida for a Disney Casting Call. He was not only being looked at by Disney but many other agents. That required a little of both, acting head shots and a modeling portfolio. When you go to a casting call, you get one shot to be in front of the decision makers. You want to make sure that you have great, professional acting head shots or a professional modeling portfolio, in your hand. The opportunity may be a once in a lifetime chance, so having the right professional photographer is key.   Modeling and Acting Portfolio Photography Sessions When you schedule an modeling or acting portfolio session with us, we will ask a series of questions. The main question is who are these images for? What type of role are your auditioning for? Do you need to look younger, older, or your age? What companies will you be sending your portfolio to? All these questions are valid to ensure that we get the right results in our images. For Marquis, the acting portfolio was for Disney only. We needed to ensure that we had images that portrayed him looking like someone you might see on the Disney channel. Here are a few examples. Keeping Marquis looking young was a mixture of choosing the right clothing, the right photographic lighting, and having a cheerful appearance. Now for the contrast between Marquis’ acting and modeling portfolio photos. For these photos he wanted to look older, fit, handsome and marketable. Here are a few more of our favorite photos from his acting and modeling portfolio session. Corporate Headshot Photographer

Corporate Headshot Photographer Are you looking to update or just have new head shots done? Are you looking for a corporate headshot photographer? Contact us today for more information.   Updated Corporate Headshots In these days and times, a lot of our clients find us on the internet. Once they find our website, they will often look at the “about me” area. If they are searching law firms, doctors offices, or financial advisers, there are generally multiple employees that work for that particular business. When they are searching they will click to try to make a connection to the owner or the employee. It is then that it is most important to have an updated headshot on your website. This is the first impression that our clients will receive of us. Old, poorly lit, or badly posed headshots could cost us that future client. It is important that we all keep our headshots current. We don’t want to shock clients and not look like the photo they saw of us online. At Hayne Photographers our headshot sessions are effective. We ensure that our clients are pleased before they ever leave their headshot session. At every appointment we tether our camera to our computer. That allows our clients to view their images as we are shooting them. That way we can ensure that we are meeting the vision of each of our clients. We also offer our clients a variety of backgrounds. We advise our clients that bringing a couple of different colors, maybe a change of ties, is a good idea. That way we can try both and see which look our client likes best. Before our headshot clients leave our photography studio, they choose the images that that love. This method ensures that our clients are pleased and that we captured them as they want to be pursued in their images. To learn more about our professional headshot sessions, read more here. Norfolk Family Portrait Photographer Are you looking for a Norfolk family portrait photographer? We are family portrait photographers in Virginia as well as destination portrait photographers. Contact us today for more details regarding our family portrait sessions. You can read more about our family portrait sessions here. Outdoor Family Portraits The holidays are a great time when family gathers together. That sometimes is the best time to schedule your family portrait session. For some families, their children are spread out all over the country and sometimes in different countries. That was the case for this beautiful family. Christmas was going to be exciting as they were all going to be together to celebrate. The Koelling family knew the importance of a family portrait. Gathering your family becomes increasingly more difficult as everyone grows up and starts their own career. Family portrait sessions become more and more sparse and therefore, more and more important. When was the last time that you scheduled a professional family portrait session? We love outdoor family photo sessions. We also love to incorporate the elements and structures of the area where we are photographing. When choosing where to have your family portrait session it is important to look at many elements. 1. What will my backdrop be? 2. Is there color, for contrast? 3. What time of the day will be the best light? 4. Which direction will the sun be setting? These are just a few questions to ask yourself. All of these questions, along with many other elements create a great family portrait.   Poses and Groupings for a Family Portrait Session For all of our family portrait sessions we shoot a variety of poses and a variety of groupings. It is important that we capture all these different elements for our families. We always start with the full family portraits. This way, if there are young children, we make sure that we get a good solid portrait before the children lose interest. For the Koelling Family we wanted to make sure that we got the all girls and the all guys portrait. Then adding a more causal variation is always fun.   Individual Portraits We then move on to individual portraits. Who wouldn’t want a great portrait of every person in their family? (click on an image to enlarge)   One of the children are married in their family, so of course, taking a couple’s portrait is important.  Portraits of Mom and Dad As a photographer we never forget how important it is to capture great photos of mom and dad. Through out history mom and dad are always stuck behind the lens. When we talk a few moments to steal them away for a few photos, it is never regretted. Also, what child wouldn’t appreciate a great portrait of their mom and dad? (click on an image to enlarge) If you are ready to schedule your family portrait session, contact us today!

Editorial Photographer | Magazine Photographer

editorial-photographer

Editorial Photographer Are you looking for an editorial photographer for your next magazine cover or layout? Contact us today for more information. Editorial Photography We have had many opportunities to be an editorial photographer for multiple magazines. This is our first time photographing for Military Spouse Magazine. In researching the magazine it has a very large distribution and has had many celebrities line their magazine covers. Monthly Military Spouse magazine circulation is 70,000. Celebrities like Shaq to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge have been photographed for the cover of this magazine. Just last month Shaq was photographed for the cover for his “Shaq-A-Claus!” campaign. For us to photograph the cover for January, following Shaq, was exciting. There was quite a photographic standard in place that we needed to meet or exceed. We got the call to photograph the cover and feature images for an article on Vista of VistaPix Media. Read the article in it’s entirety here. If you would like to purchase the magazine, here is the site to do so. When we are photographing for a magazine, it is very important that we work closely with the art director. From there we receive specific instructions on their layout and vision for the magazine cover photo as well as the layout. Once we receive that information, we then can incorporate our photographic artistry. When we include our own creative vision, it helps the publication have multiple options when choosing their final photos. As an editorial photographer it is important for us to bring out the best in our clients. It is no different then photographing any other client. We want to ensure that we highlight the best features, helping them look their best. Our full service studio helps us achieve this goal. We also can provide hair and make up artists for any of our photographic sessions. As a final touch, our editing will ensure that no detail is missed. The client and the magazine will be thrilled with the final product. This magazine cover photo was a clean modern look that changed dramatically from the original vision for the cover. The collaboration between the art director and the photographer is essential to achieving a product that is suitable for their magazine but also incorporates the photographers artistic vision. This is the latest of many editorial projects that we have photographed. If you would like to see more samples of our editorial photography, please contact us today.

Commercial Composite Photography | Green Screen Photography

commercial_composite_photographer

Commercial Composite Photography Are you looking for green screen photography? Maybe you are looking for commercial composite photography. Contact us today for more information regarding our services. Composite photography is the art of taking multiple photos of individuals or elements and then layering them into one digital photo. This image above is an example of a digital composite. This would be referred to as our green screen photography services. On a commercial photo shoot, we spend a lot of time photographing each individual. We photograph them in several different poses and expressions. This allows us options on our final digital composite image. Each of our subjects are photographed on a green screen or white screen. This is so we can extract them from the background. Digital extracting is a tedious and meticulous process. Once our extractions are complete we begin our art work designing in Photoshop. For this commercial photography session they wanted a group image as well as individual images for their website and marketing. For this particular commercial shoot we decided to use our white screen set up, instead of our green screen set up. Here is an example of an individual image. This is the result in extracting the subject in Photoshop then dropping them into a background of choice. Here is an example of an alternate background. Using the composite photo technique, we can basically take a commercial company anywhere. The company can be or look however they would like, all while being shot in one studio set up. Here is another example of individual subject. We have access to a multitude of backgrounds. We consult with our commercial accounts and find out what type of setting they are looking for. We then present a number of backgrounds to choose from. In some cases, we have to go out and photograph new digital backgrounds. Here is an example of some digital backgrounds that we photographed for this commercial photography account. We then present them by dropping a subject in the background. This helps the client visualize the final product. From there they choose their favorite backgrounds.   Here is more information on how we create our digital composites. Is your company looking for something unique in your commercial photography? Contact us today for more information.

Contact us today for more information on our photography services. Commercial Photography We love being commercial and advertising photographers. It can often be a very creative session if you have cool clients. Meet Wendy. She is the epitome of cool clients. Wendy is starting a new business and hired us as her commercial photographer. When we are photographing for a commercial client, we want to ensure we have a clear vision of what they are trying to achieve. Through much communication and collaboration we achieved exactly what Wendy was looking for in her new branding and new business. The product Wendy is selling, is her. Her expertise, her motivation and her mentoring. She wanted to be captured in a beautiful, fun and professional way. Wendy did some serious planning before her photo shoot. She had been working with other professionals developing a new website and a new brand. Along with her new brand, she would need new photos to embrace that brand. She discussed in length different photos that she would need to fill all the spaces of her new website. She also needed professional commercial photos for things like email blasts, newsletters and social media. Here are a few of the shots that she needed to fill her website with professional photos. Commercial Website Photos In preparing for her commercial photo shoot, we knew that we would be capturing some images showing that Wendy loves to talk to you. She came up with the concept of incorporating the envelopes. This would send the message that she loves to get mail and LOVES to respond to her clients. We thought of a few ways to show this concept. With commercial photos this fun, who wouldn’t want to send her a letter? Commercial Yoga Photography Wendy is also a certified yoga instructor and will have a section on her website dedicated to yoga. She wanted some different, out of the box, professional yoga pictures.   Beautiful Commercial Headshots Here are a few more of Wendy’s beautiful professional headshots.   Are you interested in professional headshots for your website or social media needs? Family Portrait Photographer | Samuelson Family

Family Portrait Photographer Are you looking for a photographer to capture lasting family portraits? We would love to be your family portrait photographer! Contact us today for more information. Fun Family Portraits We love to photograph families. We always strive to capture beautiful family photos. When we are photographing a family portrait session, we capture a variety of photos. The Samuelson family took time to carefully coordinate their outfits. This is so important when it comes to family portraits. As a photographer you want everyone to blend, not necessarily match. When you use punches of color in your accessories, this creates interest in your photos. An example of that would be dad’s red tie. Another example would be the daughters’ red flower. In this family portrait session, there are a few colors woven throughout each of the family members. Red, black and white were colors that all family members has incorporated into each outfit. Texture in your outfits also bring interest to photographs. Dad’s jackets and the son’s vest all have an element of texture bringing dimension to their portraits. This family is a great example of “what to wear” on your family portrait session. Props for Family Portraits We often incorporate props in our portrait sessions. It may be a chair, couch or a settee. We use a variety of props in our photo shoots. We do this to add interest to a photo session. It often helps with creative posing as well. Here are a few family photos where we used an antique settee. Candid Family Portraits When we add a candid feel to our portrait sessions it not only creates visual interest, but also creates purchasing options for our clients. What could be more fun on a beautiful fall day then tossing some leaves. I just love this picture. The kids expressions in this family photo are priceless!   If you are looking to create lasting family photos, we would love to be your family portrait photographer. Professional make up application is key to a flawless complexion. We have professional make up and hair artists that will come to the studio and provide that service for you. For guys, a little translucent powder applied to the face will help knock off any shine on the skin. Variety of Colors and Styles: Often we have a favorite outfit or color, but in photographs it doesn’t always translate as beautifully as we imagined.  If you have a variety of colors and styles it will give you more choices. Different Backgrounds: If you choose us to be your head shot photographer, we will provide multiple backgrounds to give you a variety of options when choosing your perfect head shots. We also can provide green screen or white screen head shots with extraction services. When photographing on white or green screen you can be extracted from the background and placed into any background. Tiny Prints and Stripes: Avoid tiny patterns, like hounds tooth or tiny stripes. They don’t translate well in camera and give a “zig-zag” appearance in your images. Virginia Senior Portrait Photographer – Matt

Virginia-Beach-Senior-Portraits

Virginia Senior Portrait Photographer Have you had your senior pictures taken? Are you looking for a senior portrait photographer? Contact us for more information on our senior portrait sessions! Meet Matt. He choose us to photograph his senior portraits. He wasn’t really sure what he wanted for portraits, he just knew that he needed senior photos taken. This is true of a lot of our seniors. It is our job as a senior portrait photographer to come up with locations, poses and dressing tips to help all of our clients have a great senior experience. If you are a photographer and you need help with dressing tips, senior posing tips and more, check out our High School Senior Photography Kit. As with most high school seniors, this is the first time they have had professional portraits taken since they were young. This is a very exciting time in every family’s life. We strive to create amazing images that will last a lifetime. We began Matt’s senior photo session at our studio. Our studio is located in the historic district in downtown Norfolk. In a 2 block radius we have every background imaginable. Trees, cobblestone, history, texture, color, it is a photographer’s background dream! How to Find the Perfect Window Lighting for Portraits There is a learning curve to every type of photography and every type of lighting, especially if you are shooting indoors. Our studio is located in a historic house built in 1850 and has oversized windows that allows in gorgeous light. The direction of light is very important in photography. North light is going to be your best source of window light. When we are photographing someone in window light, we want to light to fall on their face. Then we use a reflector to bounce light back at the subject. Natural window light portraits tend to give a softer look using this technique. This technique works great for clients of all ages. For older clients it gives a very “kind” and softer appearance using window light vs. studio lighting. Here is a series of photos using our window lighting technique. (click on image to enlarge) Creating Unique Senior Portraits with Off Camera Lighting We use a variety of photography lighting in every portrait session and every wedding that we photograph. Learning different lighting techniques is key to creating a well rounded portfolio. Off camera lighting is a technique where you basically get your flash off of your hot shoe and away from the camera. With the right technique and the right equipment you can create unique portraits. Learn more about different lighting techniques.   Flow Posing in Photography We tend to use flow posing in most of our portrait sessions and weddings. Basically that is being able to capture a series of images quickly in a short amount of time. We do this by making very small adjustments in our clients posing as well as using multiple lens choices in the same location. Here is a quick sample of this technique that we used on Matt’s senior photo session. (click on image to enlarge) If your senior photography posing is stuck in a rut, check our our Senior Look Book for inspiration in your posing. I could have blogged all of Matt’s senior portraits because I loved his session. I will leave you with a few more of our favorite photos. NASCAR Nationwide Series Photography – Richmond International Raceway Are you looking for a commercial photographer for your business photography? Contact us today for more information.    NASCAR Sprint Cup Practice and Qualifying Photos This weekend we had the privilege of hanging out and photographing our favorite sport. We took photos all day at the Richmond International Raceway. We started the day at 9:00 AM with NASCAR Sprint Cup practice. The morning was filled with excitement as cars took the field. They were in and out of the garage area. All morning the were tweaking to get the fastest car possible for the Federated Auto Parts 400. The garages were hectic with crews adjusting their cars during practice. With all of the hectic-ness of the day, it makes it easy to stay busy photographing.   NASCAR Nationwide Wide Series Qualifying Photos The afternoon at Richmond International Raceway was filled with qualifying. The first qualifying segment of the day belonged to the Nationwide Series. With 43 cars in the field, all would make the starting line up. Their qualifying would simply determine their starting position, not if someone would not make the field. Kyle Busch, driving for JGR would end up on top taking the pole position for the Nationwide race. Landon Cassill of JD Motorsports would qualify 11th for the Nationwide Race. With top Sprint Cup drivers in the field, Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson and Matt Kenseth, they would give the Nationwide drivers a run for their money. NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying Photos As the qualifying segment began for the Sprint Cup drivers, we knew that there would be a frenzy on the racetrack. We also knew that with a frenzy their would be plenty of opportunity for great NASCAR photos. The reason we knew that all the drivers would head out immediately was because of cloud cover. In NASCAR, the cloud cover cools the track therefore the cars go faster. For qualifying you want the fastest time possible. The faster you are the better line up for the NASCAR race and the better pit selection you will have. Brad Keselowski laid down the fastest lap time making him the pole sitter for the NASCAR Federated Auto Parts 500. Jeff Gordon will be sitting outside on row 1 with the second fasted qualifying time. If you missed the Brickyard where Jeff Gordon took home the trophy, check out some of our NASCAR photos from the race. NASCAR Nationwide Series VA529 College Savings Plan 250 The sun was setting at the Richmond International Raceway as the skydivers plunged from an airplane thousands of feet above. With the sun setting and a gorgeous sky we knew the the photos of the skydivers would be spectacular. From green flag to checkered flag, we were in a night racing situation. We were photographing after sunset, late into the evening presents challenges. Fortunately if you have the right photography gear, fast lenses and fast cameras, you can capture some great NASCAR photos. With dim lighting and fast moving subjects the challenge can be intimidating. Knowing the sport certainly helps with getting key figures and key shots through the NASCAR race.
